Issues: Shutdown, USB, Drivers

There are several seemingly linked issues occurring. The problems started a few weeks ago.
At the time, I went through a bunch of troubleshooting to fix the problem, but could not fix it.
The next day the problem was gone. No idea how.

Yesterday I installed the newest Nvidea driver 337.88
I have been troubleshooting since then but this time I am unable to fix the issues.

Here are the issues:

1. System will not shutdown/restart, but hangs on the shutting down/ restarting page. I need to Hard shutdown to reboot.
2. USB devices are only recognized if plugged in during startup. If I unplug my mouse and plug it back in it will not work again untill I restart. Thumbdrives act in the same way.
3. When I go into control pannel and try to enter "devices and printers" the window will hang untill I force it closed.
4. (possibly) Uninstaller hangs when uninstalling drivers. I do not know how long this is supposed to take, but I waited for at least an hour before giving up.

Last time when the issues were fixed, both the system shutdown issue and the usb recognition issue seemed to go away together. I dont know about the other 2, but i know the hanging on the devices and printers panel was occurring.

things I have tried in order to fix these issues:

Hybrid sleep disabled
Sfc scan
reinstall latest Nvidea driver
Cmd prompt shutdown commands
Messing with Antivirus (scans, disable, deep clean, etc)

When I reinstalled the latest Nvidea driver, the USB device issue was still present, but I did get it to shut down all the way (Only once). after the first restart, it would not shutdown again).

I read somewhere that it could be from faulty drivers, and reinstalling the wireless, bluetooth, touchpad, and nvidea drivers would fix the problem.

I started to do this but I am not knowledgable enough to feel safe uninstalling these things. I know that having the wrong drivers can cause some serious problems.
Also, when i went to uninstall things (like the touchpad driver which i felt safe uninstalling) the uninstaller would just hang and eventually I had to terminate it/ hard reboot.

Anyways, I know that these are not devistating issues, but combined they are both annoying and worriesome. I would be greatful to anyone who could point me towards or give me help!

twich, start with this problem, it has been because the Windows 8.1 driver for Bluetooth in the JX download area isn't new enough and causes slow boot and shutdown/restart.

To get the latest Windows 8.1 drivers, go to the new G750 download areas for the JM/JS/JZ models. JM should have what you need.

Just look at what Qualcomm, or Broadcom, or Intel Bluetooth driver/package you have installed in the Programs and Features control panel, and find those on the JM download area, and download the latest version.

There may be newer yet versions in the central Asus area for Bluetooth drivers for laptops, so you might as well check there too for a newer version.

Here are all the places I check out for new drivers:

G750 support areas - The JM download area has the latest of all the G750, with JS/JZ next:

Here is the latest Notebook Audio - for G750 => Realtek driver package Version V6.0.1.7224
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Audio&os=30

Here are the latest Notebook Bluetooth drivers
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Bluetooth&p=3&ft=27&os=30

Here are the latest Notebook WLAN drivers

Here are the Asus posted VGA drivers, the JX can use the latest from Nvidia, but have this here for reference.

After you get the new Bluetooth drivers installed, that should cure the shutdown/restart delay, then proceed to compare all the driver / app packages you have in the Programs and Features, and update all of them to the newest available for Windows 8.1, and then check to make sure all the problems you have been having are gone - and make a new list of the remaining problems and come back 🙂

Also, the USB problems are due to the Asus Charger+ being backrev, update that to the latest version, or uninstall for now to make the usb problems go away.

So far so good!

I was installing Broadcom V12.0.0.8070 from the JM drivers. after several forced closures and a forced shutdown, even though the installation said it could not be completed, the driver now says its updated and working fine, and the shutdown problem no longer exists! All of the other issues also seem to be fixed!

Thanks a bunch, hopefully this lasts. I guess the hardest part is finding the newest drivers, especially when the ones for your model are outdated, which does not make sence but w/e, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The Windows 8/8.1 transition was tough, and it took a few months for things to settle down and all the glitches to be fixed. The new G750's came out right in the middle of that, so they got all the download update attention.

Digging a bit is needed with Asus, but I don't mind, as long as they keep putting their time into coming out with new cool hardware, I can spend a little time finding drivers 🙂

I noticed the Notebook Bluetooth link I gave above didn't represent Broadcom well, so I found a better one, and updated my post above, here it is too, with an even newer version of the Broadcom driver you found on the JM download area:

Broadcom Windows 8.1 Version V12.0.0.9550

What vendor / version are you installing?

It should be uninstalling the original driver package for you.

You could try disabling Bluetooth first, either by enabling Airport mode, or disabling the Bluetooth interface through Charms => Settings => PC Settings => Network and click the slider to disable Bluetooth and click the slider to enable Airport mode.

To get unhung you may have to hold down the power button, as even a shutdown at this point might just sit there.
