Is it possible to install a working Windows 7 OS on a G750JW-T4019H?

Hey RoG!

I am about to buy the G750JW. However, as I am buying from Germany, I only have access to European/German models. In detail, the model I am about to buy can be found here:
http://www.amazon.de/G750JW-T4019H-Notebook-4700HQ-NVIDIA-schwarz/dp/B00CHM7HCI
I was not able to find an English/North American website which displays the same model, so sorry for that!

I am planning to install Windows 7 on this laptop. Since the hard drive that comes with the laptop is said to be slow, I want to take the hard drive right out of the laptop and just replace it with a 250 GB or 500 GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO. On this SSD, I want to install Windows 7.

However, is it even possible to have a working Windows 7 on this machine? Are there drivers for it? From what I have seen, the Asus website does not provide Windows 7 drivers for this laptop -- where would I be able to get drivers compatible with Windows 7?
Any tutorial, or tips/hints, or just showing me the right direction, would all be very appreciated!

Regarding the SSD: Do I have to buy some kind of special version SSD for the laptop? I have seen SSDs which have the description "Laptop Kit", what does that mean? Do I have to use Laptop Kit SSDs for this laptop, or can I insert a common SSD which is used for common Desktop PCs, as well?

Thanks in advance!

You've never used 8, yet you think it's worse than 7? Don't fall into the trap of listening to people who can't wrap their heads around having a different-looking start menu. Most benchmarks show a slight advantage for 8 (although admittedly they're very very close).

Rawand, I have been using the Stock Asus OEM install of Windows 8, then updated to Windows 8.1 and use the latest Nvidia drivers and get the highest, or next to highest scores in 3dmark tests - and the colors / screen / charging(?) are all top notch.

You can find the latest drivers for 8.1 listed here in the forums, and by hunting them down on the Asus support site - look for the latest new motherboards/laptops that use the same chipsets as the G750 - the wireless / BT card is different in each configuration - the biggest challenge - but everyone that keeps looking eventually gets it 🙂

You can use a couple of addon's to get back the missing Windows 7 favorites, like Windows Home Button with Menu + Gadgets. I use these:

Classic Shell

31125

31126

8GadgetPack
http://8gadgetpack.net/

31127

31128

And, uninstall Asus Splendid, it messes with the colors and if you get used to it you won't be happy with a balanced / calibrated monitor again 🙂

Yes, it is possible to install Windows 7 on a G750JW. I've done it and everything works fine except, the only thing I can't get to work is the BCM20702A0 Bluetooth Device. I can't find a working Win 7 driver for this.

Yes, you can. Google "windows 7 clean install g750jw".

You shouldn't really though. No advantage to downgrading. Windows 8.1 is just fine - you don't like tiles, set "boot to desktop" as default and enjoy.

edit: any 2.5" SSD should work fine. no need for "kits", as the necessary bracket is already included.

Windows 7 FTW, it's possible, Windows 8 doesn't work with many of my software and I don't want to have any metro apps running in the background.

Yes I do know about the start menu alternative apps but it's just a ****ty OS in my opinion

and my benchmarks in Windows 7 are higher by 10% on both 3DMark and CrystalDiskMark

Also, I want to control how I work with my OS not be forced to do so

With Windows 8, you cannot disable UAC completely without breaking half the OS functionalities

you cannot disable hibernation as it is essential for the fast boot / fast shut down

you cannot disable virtual memory even if you have 32 GB of RAM without running into problems of programs like Windows Media Player reporting low memory, on Windows 7 I have disabled virtual memory for years with 0 problems

Sorry mate, but this is full of wrong information. Don't have time to pick it apart now though.

Jesus Christ you guys,

THE ANSWER TO ALL YOU'RE PROBLEMS IS A LITTLE THING CALLED "START IS BACK" !!!

The way I've always wanted my operating system to look and feel has been solved forever. Its got a bit of Windows XP (flyout menu + taskbar) and Windows 7 all rolled up into one (with all the benefits of Windows 8.) Here is a few screenshots:
