@xphantsx, it's the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, it provides Intel version of AHCI (and RAID) drivers, which is still under active development (compared to Microsoft's AHCI driver).

I have a new G75VX -RH71-CA with 12 Gb of ram which came with Win 8 core that I upgraded to Win 8 Pro with Media Center. It has a
Seagate ST750LX003-1AC154 that I think is a hybrid drive with a small SSD. My desktop with Win 8 Pro has a SSD and shows that it is
running IRST but my new laptop doesn't. I can't see that IRST is running on the laptop with device manager.

Should I install the drivers shown here? The experience index shows 5.9 for the disk drive (7.9 on my desktop) and I wonder if I can get
better results.

Well it sounds like your main boot drive is the Seagate..? and the small SSD is the secondary drive, thats why it shows up as 5.9 on the experience index.. If u swap the config around your score would bump up to 7.9 and everything should feel faster as windows will run on the SSD..

The desktop must obviously have the SSD as the main boot drive.

As for installing IRST, you might aswel get the latest version.. wont make any difference in the experience index..

On the left side there are files from the official ASUS support site (with installer).
On the right side there are files from Intel's download page (x32 and x64 have the same names).

As you can see they are a little different. I'm afraid that a simple change of names would corrupt the whole installation since the installer would probably look for the original filenames.

Additionally, the official install dir contains files 2KSETUP.ini and TXTSETUP.oem. Don't know for sure if they are needed by the exe installer and need confirmation.
