I've absolutely had it with ASUS sound problems.

I downloaded a driver update and now the speaker doesn't turn off at all when I put the headphones in. This happened right after the driver was installed. I'm getting sick and tired of this crap. Is ASUS staffed by monkeys or something? How do you fix this?

Well unless you have some sort of hardware problem these issues have been solve with the 600 and higher VIA Driver c_man put up some settings to make it sound better. Several other have also. If you haven't you may want to uninstall the VIA HD Drivers from Device Manager Program and Features reboot then install the latest drivers 1400 I think.
