I'm not tech saavy, and I need help learning how to run my new G751-JT

Hello all,

I'm the new owner of a G751-JT, and I have no real clue on how to run it. I'd like to maximize my performance (within safe reason) and need a little help on how to run it.

Is there an "owners manual" available? Is there a pre loaded function that controls things like overclocking the CPU, GPU, etc? I went into the function linked by the "ROG" button, and it seemed to have very limited functionality. I can't find that I have GPU tweak loaded or anything.

Help me get educated!

Thanks,

-Bob

Download MSI afterburner - It's pretty straight forward (Google how or look at youtube) 🙂

bobbymcq11/Sagi, Asus has their own Asus GPU Tweak for Graphics Cards that will work on the G751.

Asus GPU Tweak for Graphics Cards, stable at release 2.6.5(.3), newer versions have had problems reported.

And, for unlocked the multipliers in the CPU, I have heard Asus is now shipping Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - XTU in the G751, or you can download it here:

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - XTU - currently at 5.1.1.25

The manual should have been installed on the laptop, search for eManual, or go into C:\eSupport\Manual\eManual <== please let us know if Asus moved it for the G751 🙂

You can also download the manual online, in the G751JT download area.

Here are all the support areas for G751's

There are lots of great posts in the forums for tips and tricks on the G750 that apply to the G751, you could read there too. This G751 forum is a bit young so there is not so much here yet.

If you are not tech savvy, and clueless about computers in general, then the LAST THING you should be doing is overclocking your machine until you really, really know what you are doing.

Thanks for the input guys. I was hoping that there was something onboard so that I could just click a button or toggle a setting and go into "fast mode." That's about the limit of my capabilities. As Richdog pointed out, I really don't have any business going any further than that with it.

bobbymcq11, it isn't really that difficult to learn, you already exhibited the most important trait required, curiosity - You Asked 🙂

Otherwise, for now, that button is called the Power On button 😉

The Intel XTU program comes installed, not sure what Asus named it - ASUS XTU? You can turn up the sliders on the 4 cores and the CPU cache to 11, actually 36x,35x,34x,34x core 0-3, and the cpu cache 36x - those are the max settings for the 4700HQ, if you have a different CPU those numbers can be higher/lower, please move the slider up and let us know if the numbers are different - and let us know what model i7 you have.

The multipliers you increase are the real multipliers for the CPU. Intel holds back on those settings for normal installs - but for our ROG laptops with the best cooling it is ok to increase them to the max setting.

You then Apply the Setting changes, and Save to a Profile, and XTU sets the values at each boot - until you have a crash / non-clean shutdown - then it doesn't apply the settings again until you go into XTU and reselect/apply the Profile. XTU doesn't know if the crash came from XTU settings or something else, so it plays it safe and doesn't apply the selected Profile settings until you intercede and set them again yourself.

When you make those changes, come back and we can work on the Asus GPU Tweak tool for Graphics cards. Those settings are simple as well.

This isn't rocket science, and as far as Overclocking, it is much safeer than the sliders without borders in the motherboard kind.

Have fun 🙂
