Hello, I have a bit of an issue with the G74SX-XC1 laptop, this laptop is not my it was given to me by friend so I can fix it, however I ran in to a bit of a snag and I have no idea what to do.
So here is the issue, the laptop screen feels like it's busted, it has artifacts on it, it stretches the image in certain parts, a typical thing that when you would look at it you would feel like someone introduced the screen to a hammer 🙂 But I don't think this is an issue with the screen, because of a few things. There is no physical damage on the screen or even the entire computer, so it's been well taken care of, also the artifacts appear when there is movement on the screen and they are random, so here is an example, when I'm in BIOS the text in the middle of the screen is fine without any artifacts, but when I select the text lines in the middle the distortion/artifacts show up.
Now even a bigger issue, the screen will go blank after windows loads, you hear the sounds and everything but the screen is blank.
I fixed this issue for him before, I went in to windows automatic repair, and after a few hours of it the laptop started to function properly.
This time around it seems like this will not work because the screen goes blank even in automatic recovery.
So I think it's either a Graphic Card issue, or a Motherboard issue, or a BIOS issue, I hope its a BIOS issue because he is out of warranty and to be honest I'd rather not send the laptop for repairs and wait so long.
I want to update the BIOS because version 203 is out and this laptop is still on 201, HOWEVER the damn screen goes blank when I try to run the BIOS flash utility in the BIOS, it turns blue for a second and goes dark. This damn screen is very selective as to when it goes blank LOL, it even goes black when I hit the F1 for "general help" in the BIOS, and when I hit ESC to exit the "general help" popup the screen turns back on.
SO is there a way to update BIOS trough a boot CD?
And like I said, I'm not 100% sure thats it's a BIOS issue, but it's worth a try.
