How to ship the G55?

So i am sending my G55 in for an repairs tomorrow. I just recently decided to check my load temps (haven't done so since shortly after i bought it) and they are WAY up there. lol 94 degrees in BF3. I saw that and immediately quit out, cleaned the dust out (wasn't much in there, i clean it often) try again. Same thing. When i got it It never went above 80 even after hours of playing so as you can imagine i was rather shocked.

I guess the thermal compound is just going bad or something. Anyway i'm glad i checked before my warranty expired. lol

Anyway how do you guys suggest i package it? I sill have the G55 box with the foam blocks that hold it in place, and the little microfiber sack that it was originally in. That is all it originally shipped to me in. So should that suffice?

Also should i take the battery out or leave it in during shipping? Thanks in advance guys, really kinda bummed but customer service was top notch for me, very polite and fast. Hopefully they resolve the problem.

Thanks guys. 🙂

Hey,
I re-pasted mine myself with AS5 and now mine never goes above 65c ever! Only took me about 2 hours to tear it down, re-paste, and put it back together. I can see where you wouldn't feel comfortable doing this though... The box you got it in would probably be ideal, being it is made for it. I am assuming you don't have it though. So, I would probably just pay UPS to pack it up. To be honest, by the time you pay for the ideal stuff to use and what not you probably could have just payed them to do it. I just sold my G55vw on ebay for $100 more than I payed for it :). I just put everything back in the factory box the way it was. Then I found a box that was about an inch bigger all around, lined it with some foam, and packed it up.

The box i have is the box it came in. But it was just the laptop box, with the two foam blocks that held it in place. You think that would be sufficient?

Also i was gonna just repaste it myself (thought my warranty was up but double checked to be sure, and it ended up still being covered) so i guess i will let them try first. lol If they don't fix it im gonna repaste it myself though.

Probably, I guess it is hard to say. I overkilled mine, but that is because I sold it to a person and I wanted to make damn sure nothing happened to it. If it made it to you in one piece the way it was packed, it should make it back to them as well.

Cool thanks. Also should i leave the battery in or take it out?

Sorry for all the questions.

I took the battery out. I shipped it just as I received it, except in an extra box with some extra foam.

Yeah as i was going over the RMA checklist i found a section that went into more depth as to packaging. Got it all figured out. lol Its in fedex's hands now and hopefully it arives without a problem, gets fixed and is back home within a few weeks. Love that laptop so I hope they are able to fix it. If not I may have to dive under the hood myself. 😛 I guess I will see in a few weeks.

I will be sure to update if anything interesting happens. lol

Well guys. My Baby is back from the shop way ahead of when i was expecting it! lol I answer the door today and its the fed ex guy with here. At first I thought that they must not have repaired it and just sent it right back. lol But when i opened it up there was a repair summary. They 'replaced the G55vw TH MOD ASSY' whatever that means as well as a OS reload (wish they hadn't lol but if they needed to i guess its a good thing)

So anyway i'm busy reinstalling drivers/programs and when i get done I will come back here and update you guys as to whether my temperature problems are fixed. 🙂 Be back in a bit.

Hi Bran187,
If you or anybody is still wondering, the "G55vw TH MOD ASSY" should be the thermal module assembly which is the heatsink(s) with fan(s) assembly (as opposed to separate fans and heatsinks which are found on some notebook models).

It makes sense to replace this part for temperature issues although I'm wondering if it would have been just as good to blow out the dust and re-apply the thermal paste.
Anyway, hope your system is running better now.
