How many years for gaming laptop?

I currently have a G53JW which can run a lot of recent games on High settings.

How long do you think gaming laptops can be future-proof for??

In my opinion, depending on the graphics card/processor/RAM, I'd suppose a year or 2. That's usually how long I get my warranties for. My Asus G60JX lasted about a year and a half before I sold it. My G74SX I have right now I'm getting ready to sell, and I've had it for a little over a year. And I'm planning on keeping the Sager I'm about to get for at least 2 years

@genessis42, My G53SX is 1.5 years old and running great, and I plan on having it for several more years. Then again, I don't game...at least, not anything more recent than Quake III. Thus, my GFX requirements are lower than just about anyone else here, so my laptop will be adequate for a lot longer. However, I run VMs, and since I have enough RAM and CPU, I am content.

Well ASUS only warranty them for 2 years, so they expect them to fail after that.



Personally I am gaming on a desktop that is 6 years old.

Don't spent on a Gaming Laptop if you plan to not replace it often. My oldest gaming pc here is a i7-965 EE it was originally with a GTX 260 and I replace it with an ENGTX 580, new case and new PSU. this is the kind of thing you can't do with a lappy. This PC still play any games on very good setting with a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

Well my 6 year old gaming pc hasn't had any upgrades in that time, so a laptop wouldn't either.



But at the moment PS4 will soon be released, and you need to at least match their specs in order to guarantee 5 year usage.

Key issue is graphics, CPUs these days are really fast, even in the mobile configurations. The graphics are what most games max out, not the CPU.

So why can't they release an upgradeable gpu on the new rog laptops?? Is it just not possible? Or would it hinder Asus from selling more laptops? It surely can;t be a cooling issue can it??

They don't want to. Have you tried taking apart a RoG recently? They try to make it as hard for consumers to do things themselves.

More money if you have to buy a $2000 laptop rather than a $400 GPU.

Problem is, they used to make them user-serviceable, but the markets have shifted to thinner and lighter systems, and users are less willing to upgrade their systems themselves. The market for easy user upgradable laptops is shrinking, and like any other company, ASUS is following the money.
