How is the G75VX so far?

I've always wanted the Asus G-series notebook. Wanted the G53 back then but could not afford it. Then same goes for the G74 and same for the G75vw. Now, the G75VX has come out.

I checked out the specs for the G75VX and the only noticeable things are (base configuration) Win 8, i7 3630qm, and the GTX 670MX.

Things that interest me are the cpu and gpu compared to older G75 as they are a better. The CPU is slightly clocked faster and the GPU has similar or better performance to the previous 670m but runs much cooler now that it's built on a kepler.

Things holding me back from purchasing it currently is GPU problems I've read on the forums. One thing I keep reading about is driver issues with the Asus custom mod GTX 670MX. Will not having the latest driver be a problem for running certain games or programs such as 3ds Max, Blender, Maya, and the Adobe CS6 (ones that use the gpu to render)?

If driver is not needed then I'm cool with it.

Are there any problems with the G75VX that should be addressed other than mentioned?

Does it still have that audio bug which came with the previous G75VW models? Did the speakers improved? How is the cooling system now with the GPU compared to previous G75VW models? Is the keyboard better? etc? Please inform!

Currently Tigerdirect (place I'm going to purchase it) has the G75VX on sale for $1399.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7708024&CatId=3998

Save your money, my Asus G75VX-TS72 is the absolute worst laptop I have ever owned. It is much slower than my old Dell that only had 8 GB of RAM instead of 16. Two USB Ports don't work on delivery and the other two are questionable. ASUS will not repair unless I ship the unit back in a NEW box and they couldn't promise I would get the same computer back with my settings and configurations. I am now getting I/O disk errors because sections are not being configured for use that have deleted files, and other curious problems. Sound only comes out of one corner of the laptop... the Dell and the old Toshiba had excellent sound, this laptop is only worth 1/3 of what I paid. ASUS has 0 customer service and could care less about their customers. I will never purchase another ASUS anything and will encourage all others to do likewise.

Never had a problem with mine, it runs just fine and ive had it for a while. maybe you got a lemon, all electronics, cars, what ever have them. if you want to keep your settings and junk then just take your HDD's out and send it back to them with a note saying if they want to change the hole laptop then just send one with out the HDD's. Orrrrr put a note asking them to switch them over if you decide to leave them in.

as for being much slower? there has got to be something seriously wrong with your windows install. something on your laptop might be causing all these issues, try to reinstall windows it and suck it up with the loss of settings, you will still have all your files.

This laptop has gotten me hooked on asus now and im not switching to any other company any time soon XD (unless MSI becomes more affordable.)

I've had 0 issues with my VX. Runs battlefield 3 like a bat out of h$&l... The gpu overclocks like crazy. I changed my
Mechanical drive to a Samsung 840po 256gb. Now it is a all I need,
Period. The Samsung is reading 538mb/sec and writing 460 or so if I remeber right. Great GREAT Notebbok for the money.

Pathfinder what numbers did you reach with the GPU overclock 🙂 ??
I plan to do it within the next few days, but would be nice to know what others have been able to push out.

Best Buy has the G75vx for $1250.00. Just thought I would put that out there.

that's the one I got last week and I love it. The site doesn't mention thunderbolt or Bluetooth but mine had it. The displays great I got the chi mei though the subwoofer does play tones which imbalances the sound but the sub doesn't play when the headphones are plugged in. Hope this helps.

what is Chi Mei? So the only problems you're having is the subwoofer don't sound too good when playing it? That's not a problem for me as I always use headphones that has built in surround sound.

Are there any issues you've discovered with this g75vx you got at best buy because that's the one I'm going to buy from + a SSD too. How hot does it get on idle and on load? Any slowdowns? Any bugs? Does the subwoofer bug still exist on that model like headphones plug in but sound still comes out of the subwoofer or speakers? Please inform.

No offense m8.. But you can find most of the information in other threads on the forum.

This is a great machine, not really anything else to say; Electronics is a bit like Russian roulette.. You never know what's going to happen.
You can never get any guarantees when it comes to buying something like this..

Just go for it 🙂

@johnnydwicked, the lifespan of ssd's depends on how you use it. its weakness is limited write/erase cycles (to give you an idea: read here; note that the article is for 840 non-pro) so, for common usage with ssd, it's long.

there are ways to minimize the write/erase cycles (e.g. using ram disk for high write/erase operations). read more here.

Intel's 520 series gives you 5 years warranty if you are worried about that.
There is not much difference in the price from the various brands.. At least not here in Denmark 🙂

All the major players that make SSD drives have 5 year warranties.
