help with G750jw-db71 wifi card disconnecting issues and other options?

first of all I want to emphasize that I am very happy with the laptop.
I have a problem with this laptop since I bought it in February this year, is that every time I try to watch a video on youtube the laptop is disconnected from wifi at least 5 or 6 times and then i can watch the video without problems.
Also I can not get away beyond 3 to 5 meters from any wifi antenna because it wold disconnect. The model is the G750JW-DB71 and my question is:

1. Can I change the wifi card that comes from factory?
2. If the answer is yes, waht will be the best card for my G750jw-db71?
3. 'll lose the warranty if I do it myself? (because I live in Dominican Republic and did not believe that there is an ASUS repair workshop in the country)
4.Is there any tutorial to make the card change?
5. Can i upgrade the GPU? (just curious)

In general, here is what it is:

1) Update your Wifi driver to the latest for Windows 8.1 from the G750JM download area, or the general WLAN download area that supports all laptops, and don't stop there, update all your drivers to the latest version. And, update Windows to 8.1.

a) Update to all Microsoft Windows 8.0 Updates
b) When you have updated enough Windows 8.0 updates, the Microsoft Store will show the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 option, do that now.
c) Update to all Microsoft Windows 8.1 Updates
d) Finally, install all the Windows 8.1 drivers you have found for your JW hardware.

2) Update your router firmware to the latest download, don't depend on the router download feature - go to the vendor support site for that model and download the latest from there for your model/rev. The built in firmware update isn't always updated by the vendor.

3) Download inSSIDer trial to check your Wifi Landscape to see if your router/AP is set to a clear channel. Often the default channel is overloaded, move router's configured center channel to a clear spot and that often helps with drop outs. You can also use the several Android apps, Wifi Analyzer (several authors) to check from your Andriod phone - Apple locks out low level Wifi access so you would have to jailbreak your iPhone to do it from there.

4) Move from 2.4Ghz to 5.0ghz if there are no clear channels and locally your 2.4Ghz landscape is too crowded, like this:



5) Try disabling/enabling WMM in the router and/or the Wifi properties/advanced, for some this helps compatibility - don't play with until you have tried the other steps.

6) Get a new router. Often old routers hang around much longer than they should. There are rare routers like the Dlink DIR-655 that continue to get protocol firmware updates and are still in manufacture today after many years, but most old routers haven't had their firmware updated for years, and you aren't going to get the best results depending on them moving forward.

7) Run on ethernet 🙂

😎 It is rare, like 1 in 100, the Wifi card is actually bad and needs replacing - or the wires have fallen off the card binding points - or the antenna(s) have a problem. After all the above, even after trying out new routers with newest firmware, you might find you need to RMA the laptop to get the Wifi card replaced - but remember this is exceedingly rare.

chassy809, no trouble, if you can dig around through the old posts you will find most of what you need. If you can't get it to work, please do come back, provide more info - make/model/firmware of router - wifi hardware in your JW - there are several used by Asus, and maybe a shot of the Status of the Wifi link to see the speed/protocol used by the connection.

And, when you get the driver / firmware updated, use TCP Optimizer to tune the Windows settings for your link speed:

I update the drivers and install the TCP and that seems to have fixed the problem .... thank the community for the help ... I will report any eventuality in this thread

chassy809, that's great! Most hardware problems can be solved by bringing the support firmware / software up to date, and optimizing the performance with tuning, I am happy that worked for you 🙂
