Help - Unresponsive Clicking on Taskbar & Alt+Tab

Hi Everyone,

I've been encountering some issues with clicking my mouse buttons or the touchpad on sporadic occasions with my G53SX laptop. Basically, clicking stops working on the taskbar and for application switching (i.e. Alt+Tab). This happens randomly, and I can't pinpoint the root cause of the problem. What I've been doing to get the clicking working again is pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and then clicking the cancel buttons (I always seem to have to click it twice, because the first click never seems to work). This solution works fine, but the clicking stops responding more often than not, and is incredibly frustrating considering that I just purchased this laptop (new).

I'm not exactly sure what's causing this, nor do I remember when it actually started happening (should've paid more attention). I know I don't have a lot of details to go off of, but it'd be great if anyone on this forum can provide some assistance towards the resolution of this problem.

Thanks in advance!

This sounds like some sort of lag. Does clicking on anything else work properly or does it seem to be system wide lagging/freezing?
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Clicking works on whatever window is on screen at the time. Other than that, I can't click on anything; desktop, taskbar, can't switch windows, etc.

If I were in this situation, based on the limited information supplied, the first thing I would try would be using Windows System Restore to restore my system to an earlier time.

If that failed to resolve the issue, I would undo the restore, so the system was back at the current state. I would then uninstall the current touchpad driver from "Control Panel - Uninstall a program" and REBOOT, letting Windows 7 install its Plug-N-Play touchpad driver. I would confirm the touchpad buttons work properly with this driver.

If they worked correctly, I would then install the latest touchpad driver for the specific brand of touchpad installed on the system.

If the above failed to resolve the issue, I would perform an ASUS Factory Restore, choosing to restore Windows to the 1st Partition. Be sure to backup any important files on this partition because it will be completely overwritten.

If the issue still occurred, I would contact my retailer and ask to exchange the laptop for a new unit. If I was outside the retailer's exchange/return period, I would RMA the laptop for warranty repair.

I have the same problem. It is not actually lagging that freeze the laptop but rather the mouse is unresponsive, you can click on the icon on desktop but not on the taskbar. At first it is not really a problem because you can just press ctrl + alt + delete and then cancel. It will resolve the issue but lately it is been troublesome. I already updated all my drivers. Any other solution before I go to a drastic measures like installing fresh copy of windows?

Been stuck with this kind of issue.. measuring to some drastic call to install fresh copy of windows. Finally found an ASUS forum and they are discussing some issue on track pad and mouse.

So I tried one of the solution that totally work for me - PS: try this at your own risk.

1. Go to device manager (windows key + x).
2. Under "Human Interface Device" find "ASUS Precision Touchpad" and right click it.
3. Update Driver and choose "Browse my computer for drivers".
4. Choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".
5. Highlight "HID-compliant touch pad".
6. Click "Next" and then "Close".
