Help pls: GL752VW's screen is a TN display, not IPS?! (Per Amazon user's review.)

Hi I am not a gamer, only have limited knowledge of computer technology, and am buying this computer mainly because of the IPS display. It will be used for photo editing/display. I placed order with B&H but have just cancelled it because a user on Amazon posted that the screen is actually TN display: CMN N173HGE-E11.

The reviewer (Amazon Customer) posted a picture of AIDA64 summary that shows the above display, which is a TN panel. He mentioned HWiNFO reported the same info. http://www.amazon.com/GL752VW-DH71-17-Inch-Discrete-GeForce-Metallic/product-reviews/B01578ZK9A/ref=...

My questions please:
1. Could anyone here confirm that the info above is correct? That this is indeed NOT an IPS panel?
2. I would like to believe the above convincing evidence, but how could ASUS makes such a significant error in advertising?

Thanks in advance.

Asus has NEVER advertised the GL having an IPS display. They did for the G752 versions.

As you can see below
https://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/G752VT/specifications/
shows IPS display

As for the GL752 makes no mention of a IPS display

You are right on the specifications page! Thanks. But... also at same ASUS site - IPS was specifically mentioned:

http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ROG-GL752VW/
Full HD flair, no glare
GL752's large 17.3-inch Full HD **IPS display*** has a matte-black finish that eliminates glare for stunning visuals without distraction. And with wide 178-degree viewing angles, you'll enjoy full vivid-color glory from even the most extreme positions.
178° **IPS** | FHD | Matte Panel

omg i am planning to buy the same laptop for 3d purpose mainly.

Interesting. I never bother reading everything other than the technical page.

Response on Amazon from ASUS customer support (an apology) seems to support that the GL752VW's display is not IPS. I think I will order G751 instead. Phew that was a close call as B&H Photo Video doesn't allow return once you've unboxed the computer. Really surprised that this error was repeated across many reviews and vendors and someone from ASUS has not spotted it until now.

I would wait. If that poster on Amazon is correct that the panel is Chimei CMN N173HGE-E11, then it is a TN panel for sure, as mentioned here:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-V3-772G-747A321-Notebook.93916.0.html
"We are already familiar with the high quality TN panel (CMN N173HGE-E11) from the Acer V3-771G-736B161TMaii (HC9GK 173HGE) review."

If you purchase from amazon and they advertise IPS, If its in the spec sheet, then if it comes with anything else, you can just send it back and purchase something else.

If your dealing on eBay, you take your chances depending on what that dealers policies are!!!

Agreed; I most definitely would only buy from Amazon because of their more liberal return policy. B&H Photo for example has better price for this particular model but would only allow return if the item is "defective." Even for Amazon, it's a pain if they dispute how it is I "prove" that the panel is Chi Mei, and if this particular Chi Mei is TN.

BTW, ASUS Support posted a reply on that Amazon review and left his email contact http://www.amazon.com/review/R185XD8XPG2FHU/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01578ZK9A&channel=detail-.... I emailed the ASUS person directly and he said he "tested" himself and re-confirmed IPS (didn't say what that test is), but he too is awaiting words from the technical team.

The plot thickens. I would like to believe ASUS but who knows. Would be nice if GL752 owners here could run AIDA64 or HWiNFO diagnostic to confirm what panel it is.
