Help me sort this out on the RAM / ASUS ROG G752VS-XS74K OC Edition

bigoldbrat
Level 8
So these are the specs:
NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card, Unlocked 7th-Gen Intel Core i7-7820HK Processor, Windows 10 Pro OS
Ok so far
512GB NVMe PCIe SSD (256x2 RAID0) + 1TB 7200RPM HDD
Yes
17.3" FHD 120Hz Refresh Rate 1920x1080 G-SYNC Display with Wide view
Absolutely
Overclocked 16GB DDR4 2800MHz RAM
I'm not sure, a little confused here.
RaMMon says Apacer Technology PC4-22400. (2015) From what I can find this would be 2800.
But when I run CPU-Z it says it runs around 1197mhz (+- 2400)
Of course the bios on this unit just has basics, no way to see the guts of it.
Lastly, any recommendations to add one 16gb stick to this beast would be appreciated.

Most likely you have 2 8GB stick in there that you can't get too with out dissembling the notebook. So you should match what you have with 2 sticks 8GB or 16 GB, for 16 or 24 GB total. you should try to match them to the ones you have. Base timings, voltages minimum. hwinfo64 will give you the exact data on the 2 sticks you have. There DDR in dual channel mode so double what ever they are reading. I can't be more helpful since I don't have an OC model

Clintlgm,
Everything I've ran shows only one slot occupied with one 16g stick... But thanks for the heads up

that would really suck!! and also it would be very unusual for Asus to put only 1 stick in the area that you don't have access too. Still you could add the two sticks to the slots available to you and they would run Dual Channel.

I suspect that you do have 2 8GB if you didn't you would only be getting the speed of 1 stick half the speed of 2 Stick in Dual Channel mode. In Hwinfo64 it will only show your RAM 1 stick at a time but will show that you have 2 stick or one stick

The Apacer run at 1200 indeed, but should have 1400 (so current RAMs to install should be 2800MHz indeed ... while my HWiNFO says they are programmed at only 1300 ... ASUS ... may you know why?

Anyway, took a while I can afford this special model hehe ... almost happy with it, but definitely design of the Asus G752 doesn't allow for fitting big harddisks so no choice, I am targeting the latest 4TB SSDs coming out now ... and upgrade to 32GB with the Apacer modules, so should be future proof a while.

My G752VS-XS74K came with 16GB RAM. It was on a single stick. I had to disassemble the laptop to install more RAM. I added three more sticks of 16GB RAM for total of 64GB.

You should put you PC Spec in your profile
Hwinfo64 read each stick so in dual mode 1300 x 2 would be 2600 When putting RAM in under the keyboard it best to put 4 matching sticks so you have 2 matching stick and 2 that don't match and maybe 1 slower ram the whole system will run at the slowest ram speed
