HDD Upgrade

Hi guys, i have been having my g75 for a couple of months and i gotta say, IT IS AWESOME. However, there is one thing that i do not like about it, and it is the slow 5400RPM drive, i thought i could get by by saving a few hundred by getting the HDD version
but i was wrong. So, i have want to ask if i should get an SSD or get an SSHD(seagate momentus XT), which one is more worth it.
And also, if i clone my current HDD to an SSD, will it also clone the OS(windows 8)?

whether it's worth it or not, that depends on your needs. in terms of performance, sshd is between ssd and hdd. if you need space, sshd might be your choice.

you need to clone the necessary partitions (i.e. all except data and recovery partitions) to get the w8 to work.

Sorry, i don't understand because you said that i need to clone all necessary partitions but data and recovery partitions, so does that mean i can't clone the whole drive or something?

I'm not sure what he means by cloning the partitions either. I bought my g75 then immediately bought a SSD and 7200rpm HD, slapped both in right out of the box and booted from windows 8 disk and installed. Was up and running in minutes. Grabbed some drivers from asus prior and had those on hand.

So many people make it harder than it is. You don't need anything from those partitions. Just download and burn a windows 8 disk, same version you have installed on your laptop now.

hm sorry for making it too brief. please refer here for more clues. unless your stock drive is exactly the same size of new sshd, you will have problems to clone the whole stock drive (which is 1tb) into the new sshd (afaik it's 750gb). the 1tb ssd is simply too expensive for now, imo it's not worth it to get one.

@XPerties, yeah you're correct; it's that easy to do a clean install 🙂 i never used the f9 recovery because it's long gone. the thing is that there are still many people that are not that savvy enough to handle things like a clean install. please help them out if you can 🙂

Very true but looking at the overall picture cloning a drive vs fresh install seems a lot easier to do. Heck, even for me I find going through the hassle of cloning is mind numbing however I understand your point.

Buy a Intel 520 SSD for the OS system.

Follow the guide step by step.

For data, games etc. I would recommend a SSHD for the extra storage and cheaper pricetag! You won't notice any major difference compared to an SSD.

Even the SSHD works great for the OS system as well.
