Hd4000?

I thought all mobile intel processors came with the HD4000 Graphics card...

Reason I ask is, why no switching ability for lower power consumption?

SSD should lower the consumption overall... I would have guessed that the HD4000 will consume a lot less power than the 670MX.

Any ideas if it could be enabled? This is still a laptop, although geared or sold as a desktop replacement.

The technology you are talking about is called nVidia Optimus, and it is available only on some laptops. There is a way to use the HD4000 of your i7 by not installing the nVidia drivers. I guess then you can install the Intel HD4000 drivers and I think it will work, but then you lose performance, because your 670MX would not be used at all.
The Optimus technology is hardware based, and there is no way to make it work on a computer that does not support it initially.

So.. it is not supported on the VX.... Ok... no problem... I would have thought that if device manager sees it.... it should work.

Silly though.. hardware is capable. I guess no one really wants to be "fuel efficient"!

The reason behind the Optimus disabled on the G75VX is because the 670MX is actually better power efficient than the HD 4000 on idle.

now for the G-Series in general, it's because they don't implement them is a mystery lol

It is not if the GPU supports it but the rest of the laptop's internals. For example my G55 has 660m and Lenovo Y580 has 660m with the same type of i7 CPUs, but the Lenovo has Optimus and mine does not. So there's your answer, it is ASUS that did the stupid choice.

hm... i'm going to test it out... this .. "could" be a deal breaker here.... My old HP would last 6hrs on that 17.3" display.
