Have G75VW 660M- why should or shouldn't i get a G75VX 670MX ?

So I have this G75VW with 660M video. I put Crysis 3 on it and would like to get a little better performance.

Best Buy has a G75VX with 670MX video. From what I have read on here, since it uses Optimus, you cant simply install Nvidia drivers. However there seems to be workarounds for that. I don't really care about optimus, I just want stable and maximum performance from the 670MX.

What is the overclocking potential of the 670MX...is it still locked like my 660M is?

I also came across some posts indicating that the VX may have driver issues with Windows 7. Could not find any more detail regarding this.

I know there are better options avail...7970M, 680M etc., but I really would like to know about this upgrade.

Please help sway, one way or the other

I have the G75VX and clocked my GPU to:

Core +135
Memory +1000

And this is considered to be a safe clock on the forums. About Crysis 3 i get a average 30-40 fps no drops on 720p. (there's a thread about that.)

I don't use W7 anymore (no reason.) so i can't go deeper into any W7 problems. And there's workarounds for optimus on the forums.

ASUS have not support win 7 driver, it is win 8 system, if you want to win 7 driver, i think you will find the chipset vender to download, but asus can not promise it is able to use.

If you have the kind of money where you can now afford to get a G75 VX after getting a VW, why are you not just going out and getting/building a desktop? It's silly to keep investing in a notebook when it's cheaper to build a desktop for gaming--and you'll get a more reliable, easier-to-fix, system that you can customize to avoid all the issues that may/may not be inherent in the VX (if it's anything like the VW).
G75VW-BBK5 Windows 8 Pro 1TB HDD, 180GB Corsair Force GT Sata3 SSD, 16GB DDR3, GeForce GTX 660M, Intel i-7 3610-QM 2.3Ghz Turboboost to 3.3Ghz

finalhour, if you must know it is because I picked up the G75VW for a bargain bin price off craigslist and can actually sell it for a nice profit.

660 vs 670mx. If you have the money it is worth upgrading. It is just a better GPU. How much better you will have to determine upon your needs.

I have VX. First there is no optimus enabled and second there are no driver problems with Win 7. There is the usual modded inf. file that is required and the mod can be done your self once you find out how on this forum.

if this is the case, why is everyone seemingly having such a hard time installing driver releases from Nvidia ?

thanks for the response
