Hey,

I was wondering if any one here could take a look at this screenshot and tell me if my HDD is in good health as there are a couple of errors presently at 07, C6 and C8:

Drives will always report small nuances. You can check the SMART status of the drive, as well as run the error scan. If it all checks out, then chances are there is no impending danger.

Still, you should always have a backup solution. 😉

Hi,

Well I ran a full sector scan a few hours back and am running another one, so far all sectors are green so thats good.

My average read rate is 85mbps after a restart with nothing else running (AV turned off too.)

How do I check the SMART status exactly?

HD tune (the software your using) reads the SMART status for you and flags things it feels are wrong in either yellow or red.

According to your screen shot, there's no red or yellow items.

As Prostar said above, its still an excellent idea to maintain regular backups. Even new Hard Drives can run into trouble 🙂

Thanks for the reply.

I'm only worried because lately when I start up the laptop the HDD in task manager sits @ 100% even though no processes are using it.

It stays like this for about a minute before it settles down.

It sounds like you have too many things loading at startup

Are you using Windows 8?

Open up taskman (ctrl+alt+del) click the startup tab and look for items with high impact.

Disable the items that are not necessary and see if that resolves your issue.

Do this for your Services tab as well in msconfig─ just be sure to check the "hide all Microsoft services" ticker box. Then you can uncheck that which you do not need to run at startup.

Hi, I've checked the running services and start-up apps, none of them seem to be the culprits as they have always been installed and have ran fine.

As I said, I checked task manager and under usage, no apps are using the HDD (well, a total of 15mb's) yet it is stuck on 100% use.

This has started to happen after waking up from stand-by too.

Might want to check the ASUS site for any new drivers for Chipset, SATA controllers and Intel RST

I especially second Shawn's suggestion on the RST driver. There was an issue with a previous version with the iadatastor service that was causing excessive CPU usage; this could be a similar problem, resulting from an application or driver that needs updated.

Alternatively, you can remove RST and use the Windows native driver instead.
