[Guide] How to properly fix the G75VW touchpad driver after upgrading to Windows 10

Hey!

I noticed Windows 10 insists on automatically installing the "best" broken Asus touchpad drivers - even over my manually installed Synaptics ones! If you want your touchpad options back like I did, here's how to fix the drivers for good.

This guide is for G75VW and assumes you have a USB mouse, as navigation with your touchpad drivers uninstalled isn't going to work very well. 🙂

1. Download these specific Synaptics Drivers, but do not install yet: http://dlm3cdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G75VW/Touchpad_Synaptics_Win8_64_Test_Z16180.zip

2. Download this troubleshooter: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

3. Open the troubleshooter. Click "Next" -> "Hide updates."

3.1 If "ASUS - Other hardware - Asus Support Device" is shown, check the box and press next until the troubleshooter is done. SKIP TO STEP 7!

3.2 If "ASUS - Other hardware - Asus Support Device" is not shown, continue to step 4.

4. Go to Device Manager and uninstall the drivers for "Asus Support Device" under mice. If you're not sure how to do this, see this guide. Remove the driver package using the checkbox, too!

5. Restart your computer. Now, Windows will eventually try to re-download the drivers eventually, but you should be able to disable the driver from the troubleshooter before that happens.

6. Run the troubleshooter (step 3) once again. The Asus Support Device should now pop up as an option. Select it and go through the troubleshooter.

7. If it's still there, uninstall "Asus Support Device" in device manager, under mice (again, see step 4). Reboot.

8. Unzip the Synaptics driver folder and run the setup.exe

9. Restart your computer after it's done.

There! Now your trackpad options should correctly show up in Control Panel's Mouse Options, and Windows won't replace the drivers anymore.

My mouse pad just stooped working completely after one of the last updates.

I installed the ATK driver from the support page in my case the G750 JH - https://www.asus.com/us/support/Download/3/521/0/3/hadqiWUmqVj4iNX5/45/

Seems to be working so far.

I've got a G75VW. Touchpad wouldn't turn off after Windows 10 update. Downloaded the ATK Package here. Works GREAT now!!!

Does anyone know a new solution to this? The troubleshooter is saying to me incompatible version of windows now.

My intention for this fix is to disable touchpad because I dislike accidentally brushing my palm on it while typing and also accidentally brushing my palm on it while playing games with the WASD directional controls.
I had problems trying the "install the latest ATK Package and Asus Smart Gesture" method and would get the error and rollback when trying to install Asus Smart Gesture.

How to disable the auto reinstalling "Asus Support Device"?
When you uninstall the "Asus Support Device" driver, it will restart and automatically reinstall.
To prevent it from reinstalling on restart, disable/disconnect your internet by turning your wifi if you have it on and also unplug your ethernet cable if you have it plugged up.
After disconnecting your internet, uninstall the "Asus Support Device"
If you have not read how to do so, go to Device Manager(For Windows 10 right-click the start menu and select "Device Manager" from the list)
Select "Mice and other pointing devices" to find "Asus Support Device"
Right-click "Asus Support Device" and select Uninstall
Check the box: "Delete the driver software for this device"
Click OK
It will ask you to restart your computer. Select Yes
After restart is finished and internet is still disconnected, the system will recognize a new mouse device under the name "PS/2 Mouse".
If you had your internet connect, windows update would changed that back to "Asus Support Device", which is not what we want.
So if it is still "PS/2 Mouse", you are still on the right track.
Now you can install a synaptics driver.

Install the synaptics driver.
The synaptics driver i installed was the link provided in user "kwaclaw's" message: http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v19_0_19_1__C__x86-x64__Win10__Signed__MS_Win10_UXUI_PS2_SMbu...
I did not try to install the driver provided by "thbdwn": https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
The reason is because i had both in my downloads folder and i did not remember which one was whose. So i just tried one.
Since I'm satisfied with the result, I'm not gonna try anything else before i break something else.
Hope this works for everyone else! And if it does, I hope it will selected for most useful solution everywhere on the web!

I think the poster meant to go to "Mice and other pointing devices" find PS/2 Touchpad which is inside/below the "Mice and ...", then continue to Uninstall the driver and driver software. Then continue with the rest of these instructions.
