G771 keyboard backlight on Linux

I'm close to buying G771JM, but I've read somewhere that there's a problem with a keyboard backlight when using Linux (since the backlight is supposedly controlled by some Windows driver). It that correct?

Hi there. I have a G551JM, with Mint Linux 17 and keyboard backlight is working fine. Default is off but just have to use fn + f4 to get it going.
