G75VX-TS72 Crash - Asus recommends no SSDs for this laptop

I was running Win8 on a Samsung 840 series 250GB SSD. Before the problem occured I had trouble playing internet videos. Several times I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash, as well as Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome. Just before the problem occured I installed Chrome and the latest version of Flash. Videos still would not play so I disabled Windows firewall and disabled Malwarebytes and Total Defense. At that point Windows showed me an error message that said Windows was experiencing a problem and needed to shutdown. Windows immediately shutdown. After that, I got no response from the power button. When the power button was pressed the screen stayed black - no flickering, no booting. I tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 30 seconds and reinstalling the battery. No change. TigerDirect, where I bought it 10 days ago, said to return it to Asus. So, it's in the mail now.

However, I did just receive an email response from Asus and they offered this general advice: "We don't suggest users to install a SSD in your laptop, it may cause system instability issue."

They have not seen my laptop yet, so they don't know for sure that my SSD was the problem. Their advice about SSDs seems to be a general recommendation for all owners of the G75VX.

Have any other VX owners experienced instability when they run Win8 from an SSD?

UPDATE 7/17/2013: just got the laptop back from Asus. They said one of the RAM cards died, so they replaced it and sent the laptop back to me. They installed Win8 on the HDD. I have not booted it yet. I need to reinstall my SSD which has my previous install of Win8 on it. So, when I boot it, there will be to drives in it, both with Win8 on them. I also have an external drive with a pre-cash system backup on it. Not sure how to preoceed now. I need Win8 only on the SSD. The HDD is only for storage.

Im running duel ssd's. Windows 8 is always gonna give problems just thats why I will not use it just do a clean I stal of windows 7 and put all the problems behind you

Windows 8 crashed so much for me, requiring so many re installations that the product key stopped working. I also have 2 SSDs in RAID-0. Running a dualboot of 7 Ulimate and Mint 15 with no issues.

Thanks for all the encouraging tips.

My laptop arrived at Asus today. I can't wait to hear from them.

I also emailed a reply to the rep that told me not to put a SSD in my laptop. I asked her why Asus puts SSDs in my laptop. I'll post her reply as soon as I get one.

Hard to believe that Asus told you not to run a SSD in your G75.
I been running my Intel 520 series in my G75 for almost a year now, had no issues so far!

UPDATE

I got Asus to clarify their original email to me. To clarify, they explained that they do recommend SSDs in this laptop as long as they are doing the installation. What they do not recommend is me adding an SSD by myself. Here is the quote from the new email:

"We don't suggest you add SSD in the laptop by yourself, if this laptop is pre-installed with an SSD, then you can use SSD in your laptop, because the SSD you add might cause the system compatibility and stability issue. Thank you for understanding!"

Thank you Asus! So we can't add disks to their laptops? At least, we can't add the best ones, like SSD?
So, if it's a real fact, is it written in the manual for example: "Please, do not add SSD to your laptop, because the SSD you add might cause the system compatibility and stability issue"? 😄

It sounds like: "Since you are not skilled enough, and you choose crap SSD, please do not use slots intended to add SSD". Not very polite.
(Or maybe? : "Since our laptops are crap, don't try to add SSD into it, it's too risky!" Not very reassuring

I'm joking here. But this advice is very weird. Hopefully, there is sometimes better support/advice.

WTF? What's the point in having two easily upgradeable slots in your G75??? ASUS marketed this product as an easily upgradeable one, hell :THEY made it that way! Who's pulling whose leg here? This is very weird...

Boot it up with only your SSD in only. Also put it in Slot 0, then shut it down and put your hard drive in Slot 1 when you boot up again you may get a Boot option just select your SSD. Once booted up in window verify your booted to the SSD, Use Diskpart to clean and format your hard drive.
