G75VX Blank Screen on Bootup w/nVIdia drivers

Hi Guys!

As reported many times before, I also encounter a blank screen after bootup of Windows 8 64bit on my Asus g75VX.

Driver version 320.49: Sometimes it works but mostly its black...the interesting thing is, in case the nvidia kernel manages to startup, a lot of previous issues and crashes are fixed..
Version 320.18: Never works and crashes shortly after install.
Older Versions like 314: CUDA isnt working properly and some games BSOD like Red Orchestra 2.

You see, there are not many options to go with... the original ASUS drivers are heavily bugged - I cant even watch youtube vids without stuttering 😕

I suggest that this may be a VBIOS problem and should be resolved by ASUS, thx!

Not sure if this can help, but if you didn't already know, you can also find unapproved vga drivers from the ASUS download site here if you're interested.

Thx, I did't know that! But I would definitely prefer the original Nvidia Drivers... I just don't know why they don't work properly on startup.

If I manage to get to the loginscreen, everything works perfectly.

fyi. We may want to re-confirm the notebook model, but Sadler13 reported "I am using 320.49 and its been flawless" at this thread When is tne new nvidia driver comming out on asus g75vx

Also, you might consider working with your local ASUS support too if necessary, but I wouldn't think stuttering in You Tube videos is normal if you are using the approved ASUS drivers (as long as your internet connection is fine?), so there may be some software or even hardware issue with your unit?
We would be primarily concerned with any issues using the ASUS approved drivers though, so you would want to mention any issues when using them.

Thx a lot cl-Albert for trying to solve my problem! Well actually the official nvidia 320.49 drivers work flawlessly on my G75VX when I make it past the loginscreen, but this is a 50% chance. So I guess that something is wrong initializing the drivers at startup.

It is definitely not a hardware related failure since former versions didn't show this behavior.

I several times did a fresh install of win8 64bit, but it didnt change anything.

Do you think it would help to avoid drivers from ASUS and take the original ones provided by intel, realtek and so on... even the INF update Utility?

I use the most recent UEFI version (206)... do you think I should roll back to an older version?

Maybe the problem is caused by the GPU itself...as far as I know it is modded by asus.

Best regards!

andiherbst, sorry I couldn't be of more help for this, but I don't have a G75VX unit around to try or know more about it.
Hopefully others can provide more suggestions.

Anyway, it would be great if we could compare with more G75VX owners that have it working to figure out what is different about your unit and configuration. Have you done any hardware upgrades or want to list your configuration (memory and hard drive is probably what we are most interested in)?

1. Although I would always say to stick to the ASUS approved drivers whenever possible (try this if you haven't already?), you may just want to follow whatever other G75VX owners are doing if they can get it working.

2. Unless you can take the chance of having a bios flash failure and 'bricking' your system (I don't usually have problems flashing the bios if it matters), it's probably better to avoid doing anything with the bios unless your are more confident it will solve the problem or have no other options left to try.

3. If other G75VX owners don't have any problems with that nVidia driver, it shouldn't be an issue with your GPU?

Hope you don't mind that I edited your thread to see if we can attract some G75VX owners!

Good luck!

Ty very much for enhancing the thread! I really hope, that some G75VX owners would describe their experiences.

Some details about my config:
I work under a restricted user account for the sake of security - maybe this bears some potential incompatibilities...
I hav the original factory configuration except that I exchanged the hard drive with a Samsung Pro SSD 256GB - firmware is up to date and it is optimized (trim) frequently - overprovisioning is set.
I reinstalled a clean windows 8 pro 64bit and used the ASUS drivers from the supportpage.
I ran a long MemTest but it couldn't find any corruptions.
Also did sfc /scannow to check whether it may be OS related.

My next steps will be to try all non-ASUS drivers...maybe I be successful: IRST, INF Utility, Nvidia Drivers, Realtek High definition Codec. I will not install anything else and check this config if it works...
I will also not install the ATK/ACPI Package because this may be a potential source of errors - despite I do not use any other ASUS drivers it is not required as far as I know... and I can live without the fn keys and backlit keyboard if everything else is fine.
Does anybody know if ATK/ACPI is still required for other stuff than the above mentioned?

Have a great day!

I have a G75vx as well and having the same problem as you are. The drivers work perfectly if I manage to log in but thats a matter of chance.I'm using the 326.19 version. Running win 8 under admin account. Havent changed the factory configuration.
Tried the memtest-no problems there. Most of my drivers are the ones provided by asus(exept the realtech audio ones). Would appreciate if anyone can work out a solution.

Hi guys,

Im getting the same issue !!! I have windows 8 G75vx. It seems ig you unplug your device and pull the battery wait for 30 seconds and then plug it back in it seems to work.

But its pretty random when it happens. Ive tried system restore .. no difference.

I was thinking of doing a fresh install of windows 8 but not bothered really so at the moment im just not shutting the laptop down lol.

I m using nvidia 320.49 but going to upgrade it now to the latest version 326.19 and try.

So first of all thx for reporting your issue here! I'm glad that I'm not the only one with that problem.

I guess it is up to ASUS to release a new BIOS to fix the problem...

Please Report back if the 320.49 work for you.
