G75VX-BHI7N11 issues post-upgrade

Hi all,

I'm sure some of this has been asked before, so you'll have to forgive me. I've had my G75 for about a year now - love it. But....
Recently I replaced the original 1TB HDD with a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo (now I really love it). I also took the opportunity to move from WIndows 8 to 8.1. Now I'm having issues. First, when waking up from sleep/hibernate, any media that had been playing before now only sends sound to the subwoofer. If I close a tab and reopen it, it's fine again. But still....really? Also, the keyboard backlighting no longer works. It lights up briefly when first starting the PC, but immediately shuts off, never to be seen again. Finally, every once in a while it decides to shut down on its own. And I don't mean, Windows is going through the correct procedure kinda shut down, more like someone flipped a switch. Gone. Off. Poof. Any thoughts people?

Welcome to the forums!

The other issues sound software related, but I'm more concerned about the power-off problem which sounds hardware related.

If your original hard drive can still be used, consider putting it back just to get a better idea if the power off problem is related to or follows the 500GB Samsung 840 Evo.
If you are still seeing power-off problems with your original hard drive, start looking at the remaining hardware for the problem.

For the keyboard backlight issue make sure you have installed the ATK driver (usually under the utilities section?) from the ASUS download site to get it working in Windows.

Hope this helps!

The sudden shutdown thing. might be a Graphics driver Problem.
try updating it to the Newest Nvidia Driver using their handy dandy drop down menus or the automatic driver finding tool 🙂

and update Windows 8.1 to the new update 1.

use the systems own power settings. not the Samsung power profiles nor the Asus Power4gear.

I don't recommend using the Samsung RAPID Mode. since you risk loosing files if the computer instantly shuts down like that.
the drive is fast enough already 🙂

and as cl-Albert said for the Keyboard
try installing the ATK package

Direct link for the ATK package for G75VX: Here

for the sound issue also try installing a new Driver from the support page
