G75VW T1042V right fan goes mad

Retired
Not applicable
Hi everyone,

I have some trouble with my right fan and I didn't find how to fix it. I've successfully installed the new bios version as found here (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?18984-NEw-BIOS-210-for-the-G75VW%2Fpage5#top) with hope but it didn't fixed the problem.
Even if I have no element of comparison, it seems that the fan is always at full speed and that no matter what are my activities. It can be surfing, playing or anything. Now maybe the fan is not at full speed and can go faster than that but I didn't seen it yet.
But when I'm only on my desktop, I don't understand why it makes that noise. The left fan is so quiet that I barely ear it.
The temperatures are normal (between 30 and 40°C), so I don't see why it goes at that speed.
Going through quiet desktop mode, high performance mode etc don't do anything.

Does anyone have the same issue and have found a solution?

Hi!
I have the same trouble. It seems that right fan is working in a high speed(not full speed) and produсing low-frequency noise while laptop in chillout mode.

I tryed to change power modes in my OS... it didn't help.

Does anyone find a solution or maybe there is some explanation?

It's GPU fan. If you by any chance do something to activate even balanced P-state, it's normal.

The case itself amplifies the noise, nothing yu can do about it.

One solution might be to check my link sig to 670M OC. Underclock the GPU as stated there.

Also use HWiNFO64 to see the fan's rpm.

Hmmm, underclocking... Is the any possibility that new video driver could solve this problem?
Anyway thx for advice.

You can try UC, I'm not sure it will solve your problem. The fan will do around 2k rpm. It never goes lower from what I could see so far. That is why I've said to use HWiNFO to see current fan speed. If 2k is a problem, I know nothing to make it go lower. At least nothing that it does not involve cutting some wires in the laptop and that is not exactly an option here.

I'm not sure how G75 was built, but the way the case resonates from time to time drives me crazy as well. At 2k rpm my fans hardly output any air and I barely hear them, but there is still noise. And I also have a laptop that has decent idle temps. Right now it's stable for 30' at 42°C since I don't do much, only P8 active. The room temp is killing me. Do you hear a noise coming from the middle of the laptop?

So I have G55, quiet, but with no fan access for easy cleaning and I have G75 with this problem, but also with some access to fans. It's impossible what Asus did here.

Yeah. Your description is very close to my problem. I've install monitoring software and found that fan produce a noise in the range of 1997-2300rpm. Noise is coming from right fan. I was dismount back panel to watch the fans, so can say surely sound goes from right one. When I start a game and gpu fan rotation become >2300 annoying noise disappearing and i am hearing only fan sound.

I got similar problem.
My gpu fan makes annoying noise all the time, from the 2000rpm (when laptop is mostly idle) to higher rpms. This just gradually started to happen during the last month, first a little then more and more.

The noise disappears if I lift the laptop to 90 degree angle.
I recorded how it sounds.. not too nice to listen that all day even though the recording makes it feel more loud than it actually is.

Has anyone fixed this with just putting oil to the fan shaft or do I need to replace the whole fan?

Harmike,

I just listened to your recording on my G75, the funny thing was I thought I couldn't hear it but it was in exact sync with mine making the exact same noise. I only heard yours when i increased the volume a bit. Any solutions? Or do you just deal with it?

I had/have exactly the same issue with fan noise. I opened her up and cleaned out the fans to no avail. In the end I tested the gpu temps by loading up a second monitor and closing up the laptop, flipping it over, and waiting. The gpu temp dropped 15 degrees...

One solution is to shut down any graphically demanding apps you have open. Second monitors are a no no if you want the temps to stay low. Unfortunately there's very little else you can do. Most desktop gpus (with fan cooling) average at around 35/40 degrees. Laptops are usually 5 to 15 degrees higher due to components being so close together.

Maybe try buying a laptop cooler to go under the bottom vents? I've just tilted my laptop with a speaker and it's remarkably comfy... 😛

Hmm, my GPU idles at about 37C, get up to the 70's with hard use. I have never actually heard my fans, I have to feel the back vents to feel the heat and fan velocity. Even Furmark only gets my GPU up to 80C or so. My ambient temp is around 25C. Since the G75 intake air from the keyboard side, a laptop cooler is pretty much useless for cooling.
A few month ago someone drilled some holes in the bottom covers under the Fans I think they sealed it so the fans had to draw air through the drilled holes. He did get a few degrees extra cooling with a laptop cooler that way. You might find this thread by searching for case mods in this forum.

If your fan is making noise it is probably in a bind, hitting something, or just defective!
