G75vw Serious Graphics Issues

Hi there,

I have already had to return one G75 because it completely failed to boot after only 2 days. Today I recieved my replacement, and the graphics card seems to be faulty. I've had an error come up already after the screen went pink and fuzzy saying "the graphics driver failed to respond" and when trying to run Skyrim (on the approved settings in the stickied post), it was unplayable due to lag. I'm at wit's end here, I am good with computers but it seems destined for me to not own this computer. Can someone please help, I just want this beautiful beast to work.

I'm not sure what we can do. I had to try several laptops until I had a good one. Most of them had severe CPU throttling without a good reason, very good temperatures. And other minor stuff.

If you want a G75, make sure the store knows that the problems are real and keep trying until you get a good one.

If you want to test this one. Well, there are a few problems for many people. Remove McAfee and Asus live update. Disable Hibernation. Use latest beta drivers from Nvidia with Custom/Clean install option. Do a Furmark test to see if driver will reset itself.

It's pretty fast and stable when not gaming, though the fuzzy pink screen occurred during installation of a program. But yeah, so far so good otherwise. I'm installing some updates, so hopefully they will make a difference, if not, i'll be back to Best Buy with hope my THIRD model will work. Quite frustrating when this laptop cost me $2000...

There was just a discussion about the pink screen issue with a different model, and for the most part this is kind of a known bug with certain nVidia driver revisions. Make sure you're using a 3xx.xx version of the nVidia drivers first.

Update: When I plug my laptop in, I don't have any troubles running Skyrim at the mentioned settings. How can there be such a drop off in performance from plugged in to running on battery? Is there a setting I can change to fix this?

When you run your laptop on battery power it automatically kicks into a low power mode, because otherwise your battery would be flat probably within an hour. This is a standard setting in Windows, and has been since Microsoft started paying attention to battery performance on laptops.

Is this setting adjustable?

Edit: Now my keyboard backlights are off, and my function keys don't seem to be working properly...

Systems like this are not designed to give full power on battery.

Do you have the drivers for the keyboard?
