G75VW Recovery Partition

Hi All,

I am inquiring if there is any way to re-install the Windows 7 recovery partition on my HDD? I recently installed Windows 8 on my second HDD, after a few restarts, on a start up of Windows 7, it said my HDDs needed to be scanned for errors. Well I ended up letting it do the scan and fix but then my Windows 7 HDD wouldn't start. I tried a few things like windows repair but it said it couldn't fix he problem. Anyway I ended up formatting the Windows 7 partition which works fine now, but I noticed there is a recovery partition that is still on the Windows 7 drive which I cant access / use. I want to be able to create a new recovery partition that I can use from start up.

Have you tried F9 on bootup to access the Restore Wizard? Have you swapped the drives around?

Yup, Tried the usual ways to access the recovery partition on startup, its like its not there any more, but I can see all the files on Recovery ( G: ) partition.

@Dave359WA, i think you have messed up the partition tables, so the recovery partition cannot be called when you pressed the F9 key.

the alternative of this would be creating a system image using windows backup feature (just make sure it's working) that you can use during start-up.

there is nothing on how we revive the recovery partition, afaik. although there is a way to try use that recovery partition; but looking at your setup, i think it's better not to do that, or it might make things worse.

Have you tried disconnecting the Win8 drive and then booted and spammed F9 to try and get the Wizard to run?

The ASUS hidden Recovery partition should not display the name "Recovery" or have a Drive Letter. See http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?23928-G74SX-not-recognizing-recovery-partition.-Help!! You may need to change the partition type to make it function properly.

I had the same Problem, I had Win7 on my SSD, and I installed Win8 on the stock 750GB drive so I could test Win8.
Well was a good thing I created the "AI Recovery set", thank God I updated the "AI Burner" before Asus deleted it from the download page.
Like you when I would load Win7 the "need to scan message" would pop up, and then it would scan all drives.
the scan would find all kinds of corrupt files (like I mean a lot), and would fix them.
This went on a few times with the same results, found out that Win8 was creating all the problems with Win7 so I deleted it.
well that fixed the problem for me now!

Well win8 is still too buggy for me now, will wait to Microsoft works out the bugs, and Asus offers better driver solutions.

There's still an unanswered question... have you previously swapped the drives around in the slots?

No. The HDD with my windows 7 partition is still in the same slot and still has the recovery partition on it. I ended up removing the win 7 partition and starting again to re-install windows off a disc. I initially removed it to install windows 8 on the second 750gb HDD. Everything worked fine until I let it do a scan and repair in which it screwed my win 7 HDD up. Now I have a multiple boot option on startup where I pick either Windows 7 or Windows 8, but nothing happens when I hit F9 on start up.

Windows 8 uses GPT instead of MBR for it's bootloader, and that's installed to your primary drive... I believe Windows 8 has restructured things in a way that that the F9 recovery is no longer accessible... You could try changing your bootloader back to MBR and letting Windows 7 control your dualboot, and most likely your recovery will be accessible again...
