G75VW - Random Shutdowns with Battery Power Only

Greetings,

Laptop (Model): G75VW
Processor: Intel Core i7 - 3630QM - 2.4 GHz
Memory (part number): 16 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX - 670M - 3GB
Monitor: ASUS PA248Q
HDD: 750GB 7200rpm
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (x64) w/ Media Center

I bought my G75VW a little over 2 years ago. I had no problems with random shutdowns for the first 18 months, but over the last 6 months (unfortunately after the warranty period) I can't run on battery power alone without the machine shutting down. It might take 10 minutes or 40 minutes, but every time I unplug and run on battery power alone I get a shutdown. I could be doing anything at all...even just using Chrome for browsing the web and it will happen.

You can see the basic specs on my profile, but here's a bit more info: I've installed all Windows updates and all NVidia updates. I'm also using the most current version (223) of the BIOS. I would gladly provide any other information that was needed to help troubleshoot this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

It's been a number of weeks now and this is still happening. I've read some other threads on this forum and tried quite a few things:


  • Uninstalled Instant On
  • Uninstalled Power4Gear
  • ASUS LiveUpdate
  • Tried not using any USB ports


None of these things have worked.

I've also noticed some really high speed fans coming on and going off both when plugged in and when on battery only (but the shutdowns only happen on battery only) so I ran some monitoring using HWiNFO64 and attached the results. These temps seem high to me since I was only using word docs and Chrome during this time and not gaming at all. Thoughts on those temps?

Also, I did some monitoring of my battery using BatteryInfoView and it looks like the wear level is down to 43%. I've attached those results as well.

So I guess my questions are:


  • What are some thoughts on my temps?
  • Should I repaste my CPU?
  • Could a low battery capacity ALONE be causing these shutdowns and high temps or is that a EVIDENCE of another problem?
