G75vw black screen after windows update

I have encountered the dreaded black screen on boot, it occurred after a windows update. For some reason it will not start, I tried the esc, down arrow, and enter method..... No dice.
I tried removing the battery and booting from just power no bueno.

I need some help this is my only PC and I go back to school on Sunday.


I noticed that the GPU fan is not spinning on boot, could this be the cause.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Normally, Windows update would not cause any hardware-related issues, but if you're not able to even get into the bios (which should be easy with Win7), sounds like something may have happened to the hardware this time?

Yes, you want to confirm if it is a hardware or software issue, but if it's a hardware problem, your options are probably fairly limited.

If you're still under warranty, you may just want to send it back if it appears to be a hardware problem and nothing else works.

Check the easier things and unplug the battery, hard drive, and any extra memory if you can do this safely and are not worried about getting into any trouble with the warranty.
If you're concerned about the data at all, look into getting a USB to hard drive adapter.

Hope this helps and others have some better ideas to get your system working again.

ok so I was a bit vague and I apologize, it was late and I was mildly frustrated.

So I was planning on re-installing windows because the current installation was having some issues, right before I shutdown the old os for the last time windows updated and shut down. I then tried to boot with my windows 8.1 install usb, but it did not show up in the boot menu.
From there I went to the bios to check settings and changed nothing. I tired to boot again and it still did not show up, back into the bios I went to double check settings, again I did not change anything. exited once again and it looked like it was going into the normal boot procedure to start up my ssd that has my windows install on it.

However instead of booting the screen turned black, the keyboard backlights came on for like 5-10 secs and the power button led and front powerled stayed on.
this is my problem.
I did reasearch all day to day and found a few options.
1. "The Blind boot menu" trick where you press esc at boot and then arrow down to your boot drive.
I tried this many times and had no luck
2. the crisis recovery option where you have the bios loaded on the root of C:\ formated as(G75VW.BIN) and the Ezflash program picks it up and hopefully starts up
I have tried this with bios v210, I am going to try it with v207 when I finish this post.
I also tried the above option but extracted the file to a 2GB and 4GB usb drive with the same name. Still no luck
3.I tired numerous old ideas such as removing the battery and holding the powe rbutton for 1 minute and the powering the laptop on without the battery. Once you do that you are supposed to turn it off and then put the battery back in, connect the a/c power and start it..... didn't work.
I also tried letting it sit overnight without power/battery.... no go
And it will not out put to an external display with vga or hdmi.

the furthest I got was with the Ctrl + Home method with v210 named as (G75VW.BIN) on the root of C:\
all it did though was make the keyboard light up and it turns on what I think was the num lock led on the front.

I am really sorry for the long post, but I figured a post that explained what I done so far would help.
I called asus they want me to send it in or take it to best buy and have them diagnose the laptop.

Yes, it can be a little difficult to do detailed troubleshooting through the forums sometimes, but thanks for the detailed post to make things more clear.

Unfortunately, it does sound like something has happened to your hardware/bios (since you cannot even get into the bios anymore) and that you are going through the right steps in my opinion although I don't recall any success stories from people who tried it if they were not actually flashing the bios before the problem started.

Anyway, don't mean to discourage you and hope you are able to find a way to solve it or others can provide better suggestions.

I think I am going to take it to best buy cause I do not really want to pay for shipping lol.

Best buy thinks its a GPU....... Could that be possible?

If you aren't even able to get into the bios, there could really could be multiple causes including the motherboard and/or GPU, but since you mentioned the problem started after you exited the bios, my guess would be motherboard/bios rather than GPU.

I'm not sure how Best Buy checked the unit, but if you check the other G75VW bios-problem related threads, it appears the people who solved it usually replaced the bios chip or motherboard.

the guy at best buy just looked at it and listened to what I said, to be honest I don't think he understood a word I said.
I suppose I will call asus and send it in, and in the mean time I am going to start looking for something fast to take the g75's place cause it sounds like the laptop is going to be a asus for a while.
