Can't say it wasn't without it it's headaches, but hey I'm typing this up on the thing. Much nicer performance so far. 12 second boot!

I got the Samsung 830 series 128gb that included Norton Ghost and a usb/sata dongle. I'll tell ya right now, you can forget about spending the extra $20 for this "laptop upgrade" version. Ghost installed fine, but cloning/copying didn't work because the SSD I got is smaller than the stock drive (obviously).

I then proceded to create a system image and repair disc. That didn't work out so well. The repair disc wouldn't boot for some reason. I even tried burning another disc from another computer. Nothin. Then I tried using my only WIN7 disc, which is the Home Premium upgrade. Tried the repair utility on there... it then gave me a message saying that my backup image wasnt compatible with this version of windows. Sigh... So clean install.

At least I didn't really lose anything critical - Just time from having to download and install the drivers, and the call to MS to re-activate Windows. The WEI score is now 7.3 with the graphics equally at the bottom. Curiously, the stock RAM ran at 7.8 - With the additional Corsair Vengeance bumping it up to 16gb total the score is now 7.6. Processor is 7.6, and the SSD got 7.9. I'm good with those scores.

The 750gb WD Black initialized as it should. I think that's going to be where I install Steam. I am downloading BF3 as I type, and I think I want at least that on the SSD. Curious to see how long it will take to install.

After the initial headaches, we're running smooth now. Satisfied.

A couple of things ...

First I would seriously check to see if Win 7 reports all 16 gb of memory as installed correctly ... wondering if you have one of the new 4 gb pieces not quite fully inserted. My G75VW went from 7.8 up to 7.9 on the memory score with similar upgrade ( my upgrade was 2 x 4 gb samsung 1600 ). With compatible memory your score just cannot go down unless something is off ... you did not buy 1333 did you?

The Win 7 recovery disk created by making one yourself on your machine will not boot up on the G75VW ... something wrong with Win 7 software making it may get fixed by SP2 if it is ever released.

It is a fast system when running from SSD eh?

Bios and WIndows registers the ram as 16gb. I'll try and reseat them later and see what happens. They are 1600s.

I was rather irked that the recover disk had problems, but oh well.

Hell yeah, SSD is nice! This thing boots up faster than my gaming desktop which has a Corsair Force GT 60gb. 12 secs vs 30 secs. I'm impressed.

Something like CPUZ ( from cpuid.com I think ) will show you details on memory. The SPD tab gives some pretty low level stuff ( and has a drop down box for each slot aka stick of memory ).

Haven't thought about putting any monitoring software in yet. Good idea.

Oh and BF3 took 3 minutes to install xD

bah Nevermind. There's now a 4.5gig update. Curses!
