So i picked up a G75VW-BBK5 last year. I am looking at buying a pair of surround sound headphones. These exact ones to be precise. http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/sharkoon-x-tatic-pro-51-headset/107131. I am wondering if the sound card in the laptop will be capable of pumping out 5.1 audio. Thanks in advance.

Hi itsgreekpete
The sound card in the laptop will gave you 5.1 surround on your movies but for games it will only be stereo, for games you will need a sound card that supports Dolby Digital Live “DDL” I have a G75WV and I use a Asus Xonar U3 external sound card with it, and it supports DDL. The X-Tatic SCU with Dolby®Digital decoder is a headphones amp and a decoder but for 5.1 you will need a sound card that encodes the games sounds on a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal so the X- Tatic SCU can decode it and gave you 5.1 sound.

If you use a sound card that supports “Dolby Digital Live” Yes they will gave you 5.1, if you use them with the laptop’s sound card No. The problem is with the laptop’s onboard sound no the headphones.
