Hello,Good day all

I was an owner for G75VW with a 3D Display since 2013 , it has been stolen 3 days ago from my car with all the things (Asus Backpack , Asus Gaming Mouse ) and some Extrenal hard drives 😞 , anyway i am searching again for a nice gaming Laptop , i had a good experience with the G75VW before , also i can see a lot of cool upgrades in G752VY and G752VT versions , i intend to buy one of those machines :

1-ASUS ROG G752VY-DH72 ( http://www.amazon.com/G752VY-DH72-17-Inch-Gaming-GeForce-Titanium/dp/B01578ZM6Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&q... )

2-Alienware AW17R3-8342SLV ( http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AW17R3-8342SLV-Laptop-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYYCEK/ref=sr_1_2?ie...)

and i have a few question :

1- Does the ROG G752VY version has an ORANGE rear vent ??

2- what is the Difference between the G-Sync Display and the UHD display in the Alienware , is it about 60Hz for UHD and 120Hz to G-Sync !?

3- i red about a lot of bugs in the G752VY Bios versions , i know the Alienware has some bugs too , but do i need to worry about a faster fixes for these bugs in Asus ?

4- what about the battery life in the G752VY , is it really bad ??

I didn't use an Alienware Laptop before , and i have a headache to choose between both of them , both are almost the same price , both are good , but i really need a push in the right direction , a convincing opinion to help me choose one of them .

Thanks in advance ,
have a great day .

I have a g752vt. My decision was mainly weighed by cooling and aesthetics. My second choice would be msi gt72 dominator with the gsync. It has 4 m.2 slots. 6 usb ports (4 of them at the left side so no worries for mouse). Other features are about the same. Mssi also comes with a smaller footprint so it's not hard finding a backpack. Just my opinion.

I had three of the alienware R2s. I had a serious issue with each machine before I finally landed on the Asus.
Machine one died on a bios update right out of the box.
Machine 2 overheated during dying light and was sold new but was in fact used.
Machine 3 had 3 out of four USB ports prove faulty.

I think you made the right choice.

i have the alienware laptop thats posted in the link, it is a good machine, but 1 think i dont like about the 4k screen is my gaming apps like steam,
battle net, open very small on the screen and i cant find a cure for that. i was told by geek squad that is normal due to the high resolution (3840x2160).

So on that note, i prefer to run my apps on my g751.
the power supply is in fact a 180w, but i havent noticed any lagging with it yet, but that being said, i havent ran any real heavy games. i can tell you that it does get quite hotter then the asus. the fans on this alienware start to scream after a bit of gaming, and the keyboard and palm rest area get pretty warm. my temp gun showed the area above the keyboard to be around 100 degrees, with the cooling vents to be at 140+. my asus g751 stays cool under load and keyboard and palm rest area quite cool. which i think alienware has always had a heat issue, from what iv read.

Hello again ,

Thanks all for your replies , after evaluating both laptops for 6 days , and reading every single review on the internet , i 've come to the conclusion :

about the Alienware :

1- 4K screen is a huge failure right now , it does not support most of the applications , most of games too , even if it supported in some games it will not allow to play smoothly , games will drop sometimes to 20 FPS because the GTX980 can't handle it properly , maybe if you are working on editing videos or similar things you could go with it .

2- 16 GB max rams !!! ,, what a ridiculous decision , they don't offer even 32 GB of ram on their website , although the slots support 32 GB of ram , if you even want to ask which model of ram the laptop support their customer service will answer with (Hey don't add another 16 GB of ram or else you lose the warranty on the ram side , and you may fry your Motherboard ) !!! .. amazing answer .

3-Faulty Wireless card (Killer) which 90% of the people who own Alienware 17 R3 admit that .

4- heating problems !! ,, even the keyboard gets warm !! .

5- benchmark testsVS the old ASUS 751JY was for Asus in every aspect ! . this was the old one , how about the new ?

I think it's time to try Asus again .

Thanks .

I looked over this a lot myself last month. All the pros and cons here are very true. There was one thing that made me pick the ASUS over the Alienware, one thing that was a deal braker for me, but may not be for others. That problem is Heat.

The Alienware, like 99% of other laptop manufacturs out there has bad venting. Tests have shown that after playing a demanding game for over an hour the temperature on the keyboard for the ASUS G752 only got up to 77.5F, while the Alienware 17in R3 when up to 101F on the keyboard. This can result in sweaty hands that may be uncomfortable to play for extended periods of time

The same can be said for the under part of the lap top. Because all of the heat on the ASUS go right out the rear vents, the bottom stays 83.5F while the Alienware shot up to 112F. So not only is the keyboard uncomfortable to use after awhile, but lets take the work lap out of laptop. Fans on the ASUS are also whisper quiet

I ended up getting the G751JY myself that shows to be slightly hotter than the G752 but still MUCH cooler than the R3

yup pretty much sums it up. i have the aw and the asus.

the asus stays cool and runs perfect, the AW is hot and fans screaming after a bit of hard gaming.

dookooo i hope my pm helped you out on the decision. i think the asus g series will be the way to go espically with a good graphics chip like 980m.

Many Thanks Bcasio for your great help , your reply and the other replies really helped me make up my mind and choose wisely , the right choice is Asus for sure .

Thanks everyone 🙂 .

back in 2013 i was in a battle to make the decision between the ASUS G750JX or the MSI GT70.
Eventually i decided to go for the ASUS. Best decision ever!

3 weeks ago i decided it was time again to get a new machine (the G750JX sold to friend), this time without thinking about it i bought the new G752VY and it's been almost 2 weeks now and i'm loving it !

I also "forced" my gf to buy the same G752VY. (she upgraded from a MSI GT70, which sounded like a helicopter at times lol). SO far my gf has been very happy with the performance AND design!

The most important reason i went for ASUS is the cooling system and noise. MSI & Alienware are lacking in these.
