G752VY going strong. And the use of Thunderbolt 3 (2 actually)!

Thought to see if the G752VY is still running smoothly (and it is):

Furthermore, I used to shoot film with a Sony Digital8 videocamera (ages ago) and I want to digitize my High8/Digital8 tapes. The Sony has an, now obsolete, firewire output and I went looking for a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter.

Since there are not many Thunderbolt 3 devices yet I went for an OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock. This dock has a number of connections: Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, Firewire, HDMI, audio, LAN. Now this device is Apple only, and after contacting them, OWC confirmed that this device is not certified for use with a PC/Laptop.

Alas, I had already bought it so I got hold of a Startech TB 3 to TB 2 adapter and hooked up the OWC TB 2 Dock. And what? Everything works like a charm. I can get my High8/Digital8 tapes in my Laptop, the extra USB 3.0 ports work as they should. So, despite the fact that the device claims: 'This Thunderbolt device is not certified for PC use' it does work. I did not test the HDMI, audio and LAN ports, though.
