G752VS Touchpad Issue...!

AvengeTheRev

I have been noticing that for some reason, if you drag a window or anything else for that matter using the left mouse button (as opposed to double tapping the touchpad and dragging) the mouse seems to skip around the screen... almost as if snapping onto an invisible grid, as to keep movements on a perfect X / Y axis. Anyway... this has become extremely frustrating when trying to fine tune parameters in programs that require dragging the mouse over something and adjusting it slighlty. Even when simply attempting to highlight a string of text it becomes difficult due to the inaccuracy when doing this. This does not happen when double tapping and dragging. When done this way, the mouse remains accurate, but loses the accuracy as soon as you push down the mouse button(s).

has anyone else come across this, or would be able to confirm that this is some sort of annoying "feature"? If so... is there any way that this could be disabled? Or at the very least some sort of workaround.

Thanks! 😉

EDIT:
So randomly I opened up my laptop from sleep, and I found that the mouse was no longer having the issue described above... but also, none of the multi-touch features were working.

Meaning, I was no longer having the stutter issue when dragging things while holding down the left mouse button. I restarted my laptop to see if I could get the multi-touch functions to work again, and once started again, the multi-touch was working again; I could two-finger scroll and whatnot again... BUT the stutter issue came right back.

This leads me to believe that it HAS to be a driver issue or something that can be fixed with software. I am not sure if or how to replicate this, but I have tried nearly everything to fix this problem. I have reinstalled drivers countless times and to no prevail.

EDIT #2:

-- Copied from a further post -- "I e-mailed ASUS about this issue, and they replied by telling me to reinstall the drivers......... even though in the e-mail I specified that I had already done so multiple times.

Not only that, but they told me that "If all else fails, employ the use of a USB mouse."

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I almost laughed at that comment. Yes, I use a mouse for when I have a table available to me, but THIS IS A LAPTOP. THE TOUCHPAD NEEDS TO WORK CORRECTLY WITHOUT OVERSIGHTS LIKE THIS ONE."

EDIT #3:

-- Copied from a further post -- I have also noticed that the installed drivers, or at least those that are visible to us like the ASUS PTP driver and the ASUS Smart Gesture drivers, don't actually seem to do anything at all. If you change any of the parameters and optionsit doesn't actually affect the touchpad configuration. Even deleting the visible touchpad drivers doesn't change anything whatsoever. The touchpad continues to work as "normal"; same stutters, gestures and all. The only way to change any settings is through the Windows 10 settings. Would that mean there is some driver that is overriding even the manufacturers own drivers?

EDIT #4:

-- Copied from a further post -- "I was able to pinpoint which driver is causing the issues. It is definitely the ASUS Precision Touchpad driver. Once unistalled and restarted the computer, it fixes the stutter problem all together. That being said, just like when the driver crashes, it disables all gesture support. So... It is definitely a problem with that driver specifically. I have tried installing other drivers afterr unistalling the the ASUS PTP driver, but I have been unsuccessful in getting them to work."

sorry for hs 🙂

Hi everyone,

I just unpacked my G762VS today but unfortunately the right click doesn't work at all. Is this hardware issue or driver issue? I should add, I reinstalled the driver for few times.

I checked devices but it seems that windows does not recognize the hardware with official name and it s just hid compatible.

I appreciate your advise on this matter.

I have tried everything mentioned in this thread and many other forums found using google to no avail. Finally I opted to uninstall all the drivers related to the touchpad including the Asus Gesture software. Basically I was just using the basic windows driver for TouchPad, then I went to the ROG G752VS drivers download page and downloaded the driver for the TouchPad and installed it. Here is the direct link just in case you don't feel like looking any further: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin10/TouchPad/Touchpad_ASUS_Win10_64_VER1101002.zip?_...

Once the driver was installed, I went to the Device Manager screen (Press Windows Key + X and select it) then expand the Human Interface Devices and right-click either the ASUS Precision TouchPad or HID-compliant touch pad driver and select Update Driver Software... click on Browse my computer for driver software then click on the browse button and look for (or copy paste this location) C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS PTP Driver\win10\AsusTPDrv\x64\Elan_Focal_PTP, select the driver from that folder and you will be good to go!

Either way, if it worked for you, let me know! I haven't had a problem with my TouchPad and all the multi gesture features ever since I did this. And you don't need to use the Smart Gesture software to have the gestures work, it is a feature already available in Windows 10.

Good Luck!

Same problem here.

Did anyone find a solution to this issue?

I can't believe the deafening silence on this issue from ASUS!

There are threads all over this site and indeed all over the Internet - a few claim to have found solutions but it seems that the vast majority are still looking for a solution. I have tried everything that has been suggested without the issue being resolved.

ASUS - in case this is unclear:
THE MOUSE GESTURES STOP WORKING AFTER THE LAPTOP SLEEPS.

I have wasted 5+ hours trying to fix this without luck. ASUS support regurgitates the same response... Reinstall drivers, which of course most of us had already tried. They listed the drivers and suggested the load order. Followed exact instructions and order but - no go. They suggested a factory reset. Drastic, but I tried it yet still has the same issues after allowing windows to update. No go. The final step they say is to return to the dealer. Like they will have any more luck... I also got one for a friend (same model G752) and the exact problem is there.

For a laptop that costs the price of half a car, the lack of communication and urgency on this issue is astounding.

Have I really made a mistake purchasing an ASUS?

ASUS FIX THIS OR UPDATE THE STATUS OF THIS ISSUE URGENTLY!

Else it's gonna go viral..

Now, i doubt if I should still buy RoG.

My G752 didn't come with a geture software package installed nor does it show up in the download section of the support page for that model if that makes a difference. It seems like it is built in to a driver for the touchpad.

I can change my settings through windows (mouse and touchpad settings) but even turning all the active gestures off still results in the same behaviour. I can't find what driver is actually crashing when the touchpad gestures stop working but reinstalling the touchpad drivers and scanning for new hardware seemed to start it back up (without restarding the laptop).
The plot thickens!

My laptop did not come with the ASUS Smart Gesture software installed either. Which is really strange because it is obviously somewhere. It has to be. Because otherwise the gestures would not work in the first place. Right? Also, that would explain why when deleting all of the visible drivers, the touchpad and gesrures continue to function with stutter and all. Not to mention they constantly ask to "reinstall" the Smart Gesture software. Come to think of it. It was never there in the first place.

There has to be some driver not visible that is active. It's the only thing that somewhat makes sense!

Found this Reddit post while rummaging through the internet. I have noticed there is a slight input lag when using the touchpad... as well as the disabling of the drivers sounds a lot like what happens when the gestures crash. I'm going to give that a shot and see if it does anything. I'll post here later once I do it.

I also found someone having touchpad issues here as well. Not sure if this is in any way related, but at this point I am desperate enough. To try anything in order to stop this problem. Lol.

If any of you try these before me, please let me know if they do anything to help.

Other than this issue it's a really nice laptop. I found the audio very quiet at first but after turning on Sonic studio (bottom right of the window when sonic studio is open) I have put my own preferences in and it makes a huge difference to the volume etc.
I came from a G750 which was great (although also had some touchpad sensitivity quirks when gestures were installed) and I had thought the volume was ridiculously low in comparison until I adjusted the settings through Sonic studio and haven't looked back.

The i7 6820 ,GTX 1070, 32GB Ram and a 512Gb ssd is lightning fast and plays the BF1 beta at 75fps (vsync) and seems to average out about 40fps on Deus Ex on mostly very high settings (a few things turned down to get a few fps).
Compared to other brands it is a bit on the pricey side but I really liked the G750 and it served me well (and ran cool and quiet) for the last two years before I took the plunge.

It's annoying obviously to have spent so much and have some really basic bugs that shouldn't be there but I would buy it knowing those little bugs are there as it's otherwise a pretty damn impressive machine.
One tiny complaint would be that the battery is internal which is strange coming from the G750 and it's detachable battery.
