G752 underperforming, what am I doing wrong?

I tested my G752 to see how much faster it would render video from sony vegas 13 compared to my 6 year old desktop. With the G752 specs it should be faster than a 6 year old Dell. But it's not really.

DELL Studio XPS 8000 from 2010 (i7 2.8 GHz 8GB of RAM GeForce GTS 240)

SUNP0023.mov rendered to Sony mp4 took 22 min for 6:40 file

MainConcept mp4 10 min for 6:40 file

1280x720 7:41 Mainconcept 16:25 Sony mp4

720x480 [2:15 minute file] 1:30 Mainconcept 1:51 Sony mp4

Ableton Benchmark.wav 1 second per % point - 100 seconds.

ASUS - the new G752 with 64gb of RAM i7 6820HK (2.70 GHz) turbo'd up to 3.2 with GTX 980M with 8GB GDDR5 )

SUNP0023.mov rendered to Sony mp4 9 min for 6:40 file

MainConcept mp4 16:30 min for 6:40 file

1280x720 9:41 Mainconcept 5:45 Sony mp4

720x480 [2:15 minute file] 2:15 Mainconcept 1:41 Sony mp4

Ableton Benchmark.wav 1 second per 4% point - 25 seconds.

Other than audio processing in ableton, if these #s are correct than the ROG G752 is no more powerful than any $500 laptop out there today. Thoughts?

Not familiar with your benchmarks but they do seem to show some advantage to the laptop. In the realms of what you are benchmarking I use Adobe premier and have found my rendering times cut in half from the G74sx I did use for it and also found Photshop CS5 batch processing taking less than half as long. Not to mention the improved speed of file transfers from flash media to permanent storage.

The software I use is more CPU and memory intensive but some on the market incorporates the GPU into the rendering process. Something else is to take into account of the software is using all the cores and multithreading capabilities and not just a single core.

I'll bet of your run a bench mark that pushes everything to its abilities the new machine will definitely come out on top. Compare 3Dmarks firestrike on the two and see what you get. I'm betting the laptop will more than double the score.

The laptops I've seen in the $500 range are good for web browsing and documents but not much more. That price range gets you an I5 8gb of ram with Intel graphics and a 500gb 5400rpm spinner.

if it is only encoding process that you need to perform, you can utilize the GPU using MediaCoder instead of the CPU.
