G751JY - I F***ING LOVE THIS THING!! :D Few questions, though...

I've had my G751JY for little over a week now, and this thing is a freaking monster! Granted this is the very first time i've seen an SSD and GTX graphics card in action on a computer so I have a poor basis for comparison, but it completely blows every other computer I have ever had in my miserable life! Including my previous laptop (ASUS N53Jq), which was absolutely fantastic...

Minor issues aside, like the mediocre audio (I use external speakers) and inconsistent wi-fi (i'm wired most of the time), this truly is an amazing machine with extraordinary potential (2 bays, GSYNC, IPS 100Hz panel, 4K gaming...). I haven't tested it under heavy load yet, I only played Dark Souls II and Sonic Generations on it but the laptop breezed through them easily at the highest settings. I didn't really buy this laptop for heavy gaming, it's mostly for heavy video editing which i'm pretty sure this machine will handle the job easily (512 SSD XP941, 32GB RAM, GTX 980M 4GDDR5 :O). I have a few questions though, which i'm sure you guys can help me out with:

. While using my video editing software, should I keep all the temporary files on the SSD or the HDD? I'm asking because I know that editing will be much faster if I keep them on the SSD, but i'm more concerned with the drive's life (the more writes the closer it gets to death, right?) so I started to wonder if keeping the temp files and cache on the HDD...

. Is it a good idea to use a cooling bade with the laptop? I know this laptop's cooling is ridiculous, but i'm kind of paranoid when it comes to caring and preserving computers so would a cooling base help?

. I already uninstalled Gamefirst III, but what about the Gaming Center? I really don't see the point of this thing, can I simply remove it without causing any harm? Would removing it turn the dedicated button into a normal num lock button?

. I heard someone buying this wi-fi card and getting a significant improvement, what do you guys think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/121481220983 A user on forum notebook reported it to improve wireless performance drastically, more than triple download speeds!

I'm sure i'll have more questions, but this is it for now 😛 I'm just really happy with it, and want to make the absolute best out of it!

Thank you for your time and help.

1. Your pc will die before your SSD.
2. Cooling pad useless imo. Using one won't hurt anything though.
3. Keep it or delete it, it is just a software. Dunno for the key remap.
4. It's not magical. If you have the same wifi speed with the laptop as your other devices, then you won't get anything more from the card.

First of all thank you for the reply 🙂

1. Really? Damn i've heard so many stories about SSD's failing with too many writes, guess Samsung SSDs are just something else 😛 Asus divided the SSD in two partitions, one for the OS and na empty one for some reason. I guess i'll just keep the temp files and media cache on that empty partition, that way I can make use of the much faster read/writes and I can easily access them manually if something goes wrong...

2. It's what I thought. Maybe i'll get one just for precaution, it tends to get really hot over here during the summer xD

3. I'll keep it installed until I get confirmation from someone who tried it.

4. I understand. It's more about the inconsistency of this card, maybe it'll get fixed with a driver update.

Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Oh, one other thing: has anyone tried hooking up both the M.2 SSD and another drive on that same bay?

Interesting. It looks really scary though, looks like any small screw up could cost a drive or even the whole bay. He's reporting decent temperatures, but it needs to be tested under heavy load...

Anyone here on the forum tried this? I would love to know if someone recommends it.

Using a cooling pad on this model isn't of any real benefit because of no bottom vents on the laptop.
