G751JY Fan not powering down

HI,

I bought a ROG G751JY a week ago and I'm very happy with my purchase except for the fact the fans never power down.
They run at the same while idle as when gaming. I'm not sure if this was the case from day 1 but it's been like this for a dew days now.
Is this normal? It's giving of 42db so it's enough to be annoying when it's quiet in the room.
Speccy is showing CPU temp 44c, motherboard 45c, graphics 43c storage 33c so i don think it's hot...

Use HWMonitor to check the CPU fan rpm. Usually, at idle, it would stay at 2200-2300rpm and while gaming it should go up to 2700-2900rpm. Unfortunately there is not monitoring program for the GPU fan ...

Make a screenshot with the HWMonitor running at idle to see what rpm do you have.

Here you go, it looks like the speed that it should be at..

I also tried it while gaming and it did indeed go up to 2700rpm. So I guess the fans are like they should but I'm still a bit concerned with the nosie levels as it in reviews says that it should be at around 35 when idle but my laptop is always around 42.

no,you understood wrong:
-at idle(no touching) it stays at 35-37
-at idle bowsing and playing videos it stays at 38-42
-full load gaming at ultra details 78-80c

mine now is at 38c and i browse, have torrents uploading, hwmonitor and video playing
u have good rpms 2300(thats idle) and in game u will reach 3300-3400rpms after 80c (i have notebookfan and reach 3300rpms at 70c

@dor1n : He was talking about the noise level, meaning 35 and respectively 42 decibels.

MarGeta: I don't think that it is something you should worry about. The increased noise may be due to the room acoustics or from the desk whre you keep your notebook. Wood is most likely to increase the noise and vibrations, and if you have a small room that increases acoustics that could also make the noise seem louder.

Are you annoyed by the sound or what ? I am running with Notebook Fan Controller and have set the CPU fan to go at 3300rpm in full load and I am still enjoying a silent gameplay. Well, if I am playing without any kind of in-game sound or music, of course I would hear the fans, but usually I use my 5.1 speaker system and I cannot even hear the fan noise.

PS: I also have a tiny room, full of wooden stuff and the notebook is staying on a full wooden desk that actually increases the vibrations. This is mainly why I know all this stuff.

MarGeta - Your temps are fine, but I see that your minimum voltage is too high, I suppose you have set "High Performance" mode. Just set it to "balanced" and you should get even lower temps.

Thanks d0r1n, NitroX and Boxis for the input! I'm sorry for being a bit unclear on it rather being the noise level that I was wondering about.

NitroX: When I'm gaming or have music on it doesn't bother me at all, the only time I notice really is when I'm using the computer to study/browse the internet.
This laptop had a rough transport here so I got a bit paranoid as my other laptops (not being gaming laptops) have been almost completely quiet while idle/browsing.
Yes I'm using a wooden desk so that might also be a reason, didn't think of that.

Boxis, Thanks for the tip.

@MarGeta : You'll get used to it. Maybe your other laptops are turning down their fans while at idle since they aren't gaming machines, and this is why you notice the tiny sound from the idle 2300rpm. But I'm assuring you that it isn't anything wrong with your notebook. I can also hear a tiny sound from the fans when I am studying or surfing the web in silence. It is quite normal.

If you really want them to be more silent at idle you could going to your Balanced Power Profile---> Change plan Settings ---> Advanced Power Settings ---> And after the new windows pops up you go to Processor Power Management and set the Cooling Policy to Passive for both "Plugged" and "Battery". Don't worry, that won't turn off your fan entirely, but it would just allow it to shut down the fan when the temps are low enough.

Thanks for the tip, might look into using a power profile for "studying mode" setting the cooling policy to passive.
