G751JY-DH71 HDMI able to push 1080 @ 120hz?

I have the G751JY-DH71 (2014 non-gsync) I can't seem to find an answer here as Asus says the HDMI port is 1.4 but doesn't specify if it is 1.4a which can only do 1080@60hz or 1.4b which can push 1080 @ 120hz and would make the difference that I need. Also, looking at the specifications of the 980m it says that it has an HDMI 2.0 port. So, if this laptop has no optimus and the HDMI is powered directly by the 980m then why doesn't it have HDMI 2.0 like the specifications of the card says it has?

In the end I just want to know if I can hook up this laptop with HDMI to a 1080 HDTV and have it push 120hz.

AFAIK HDMI is limited to 60Hz 1.4a stacks data for 3D but still cant do 120Hz.

Does your monitor support 120hz? If so it will have a display port input. If you want to have a high refresh rate use the mini display port/thunderbolt port to the display port input on the monitor.

HDMI is more geared towards TVs and displays not needing a high refresh rate. Even my high end monitors ROG swift monitors being fed by GTX 1080 GPUs wont run anything but 60hz with HDMI 2.0. Connect them with display port and one does 165Hz and the other 100Hz from desktop G751JY and G752VY.

You will have to order the cable, no one carries them on the shelf. Just mini display port to display port.

Thanks for the info I guess I forgot to specify that this will be for an HDTV with a 120hz panel not a gaming monitor. Just wanted to know if I could push out more than 60hz before I buy a new HDTV because if I can't then I might just buy a cheaper TV with a 60hz panel but if I can dish out 120hz over the HDMI then I am most definitely getting an HDTV with a native refresh rate of 120hz.

I won't be getting a gaming monitor until this laptop no longer plays games at a satisfactory level and I build a new rig. Seeing as this laptop panel does 100hz I am fine in that department for now.
