G751JY 0% plugged in not charging

I purchased a ROG g751JY about 2 1/2 years ago. After about 6 months the battery would say 0% available, plugged in and charging but it would NOT charge.
I could operate with the power adapter attached however my machine came with a flaw to the power port that the plug keeps falling out. Everytime it barely got moved it would fall out and my laptop shut off.

It eventually followed this path
1. 0% plugged in charging, would not charge, but could operate as long as the plug didn't fall out
2. 0% plugged in NOT charging, same operation as above
3. 0% plugged in, NOT charging, and would only stay on for about 2 minutes
4. 0% plugged in NOT charging and immediately shuts off when rebooted

I wrote to asus and they charged me over $300 to send it back and have it repaird, supposidly the port and a new battery
Got it back and it worked fine until about 2 weeks ago when I shut the power adapter cord in my recliner foot when I put it down and it severed the cord. I sent and paid $100 for a new power adapter.
Got it back yesterday

Plugged it in, laptop fired right up but didn't start right so it went through alll that and finally started up
I noticed that the power icon was saying the exact same thing that it did when new and it wouldn't charge. This makes no sense because all I did was get a new power adapter

I used it today and it started in the same as above
#1 0 % plugged in charging but would not charge

By the time evening came it had advanced through the same stages as above
#1
#2
#3
#4 and now will not stay booted again.
It has been maybe 2 years since they repaired the new laptop for the SAME issue to the T

The only think I noticed this time was in device manager, under battery it lists the adapter and the Microsoft something but the third thing that someone said is suppose to be showing is NOT. The battery itself.

I am beyond livid as the laptop 2 1/2 years ago was over 2k, repaired over $300 6 months old and now 2 years later it's doing the exact same thing and can't be used.
The repair came back filthy, scratched up and dry soda all of the front of it so seding it to an asus repair center again is un nerving to me

Any suggestions you can lend is appreciated

If your AC Adapter plug to the notebook is not tight chances are it not making a good connection therefore not supplying power to your notebook or charging your battery. That will require an RMA as the socket is part of the motherboard. Chances are your batteries are failing as well so have them replace them while they have your notebook open.
#1 cause of power plug failure is jerking it out

You have no warranty so send it to any repair shop you have confidence in.

They supposidly took care of it when I paid them about 2 years ago to that same repair when it was around 6 months old.
Cost me over $300 to fix a 6 month old machine that I paid over 2 k for and had only used it for editing photos.

My first and last asus and no longer sharing the same info with fellow photograhers as to WHY asus gamers can be used for awesome photo editing machines. I tell them much differently now.

Pathetic to have to do the same repair every 2 years

It also has always dropped the power adapter where it hits the port since day 1
It just gets worse over time so even the slightest movement drops it.

Unfortunately I didn't read about this happening to others until after my over 2k had been deposited in Asus's accounts recievable but they won't get any more for my next machine or via my reccomends for sure. Too bad, given not many photographers purchasing this same level machine add up

Power cord was never jerked out. Since day one if you move right it has fallen out. I've seen others say the same thing. I pamper my equipment and if anything i'm too anal and careful with them
They collected my repair money the first time and supposidly fixed all of that but surprise, got it back and it continued to falll out on this model. Lousy

How about 1-inch worth of electrical tape wrapped around the circular plastic portion to impose a snug slip fit? A poor-man's workaround I'll admit, but might keep you from getting knocked off when bumping the desk. Don't know if there's enough material on that cord to make that work, without seeing it.

Thanks Davemon50 will try that. From day 1 you don't have to even bump it. Move slightly and it pops right out. The first payment for repair supposidly addressed it. I've read from others since then that they have the same issue

I' m super anal about my equipmemt and it has def not been abused and I've NEVER yanked the plug out. If I take it out I hold the plug near the machine and take it out so that's not causing an issue for me. It's just basically a crappy build that they don't want to address to help once they have your 2k + It's very disheartening to have all this money into camera equipment and and editing machine and I can't even up load my photos

Im betting you may have damaged it when you severed the cord. If the cord was cut, it very well could have shorted the power on the board or the battery in that brief second.

I also have never had an issue with the power cords on these machines. Always solid. However if the power cord is anything like the G74Sx, where it sticks directly out of the side without an "L" shape, that could be the problem too. If you had it on a recliner, did you have it on your lap? The only downside to these notebooks is because they are so heavy, they really need to be on a flat surface with no movement to the power cord. The power cable is so much thicker then a standard notebook, it puts a lot of strain on that plug if it has to deal with the weight of it. It's just not meant to be used as a "lap" laptop.
(ROG has simply become too expensive compared to the competition with same specs... 😞 )

Nope, this is the second time this has happened and has nothing to do with wrecking the cord. The first time I went through this the laptop wasn't very old, never jerk the cord out, never dropped, never rough, don't game with it, only photo editing.

It happened and I sent it in and paid them a few hundred dollars, they fixed it and it was fine until last week again. They supposidly replaced the battery back the first time but I find it hard to believe to pay over 2k and baby a machine that it needs this repaired twice in 2 years.

Bought my third power adapter today, plugged it in and it worked great for a few hours. NOW it's dead again and won't stay booted.

Nope Mr Ruckus, again, the first time it happened they supposidly replaced the battery and power adapter port. It was not very old when they had to do that

I always have it on a laptop lap desk when I do use it on the chair. It's a hard surface with unsolid material so that air can flow all around the machine and keeps it stable and solid

Have never used it on a lap or sitting on a cushion or anything. Always on the lap desk or table with the desk
