G751jt-ch71 and SSD installation, HD questions

Hey guys!

I'm planning to get the G751JT-CH71, when it becomes available, and I want to install a SSD since it comes with none. Would I have to use backtracker if I want to setup the OS on the SSD? Also, how would I go about clearing the HDD so I can have all the 1TB storage available?
If anyone knows the steps please link it to me!

Thanks in advance! 😄

The hard drive cage will only fit one way, if you happen to mount the HD into the cage facing the wrong way, the ears will not line up when you try to re-install. If this happens, spin the hard drive 180 degrees and remount into the cage.

The brighter WASD is not a 'bug' it's a feature!

@sati747: I ran into the same thing and it took a minute to figure it out. In order for the caddies to work in the right bay (right as you have the laptop upside down and open) you mount the drive using the screw holes on the *sides* of the caddy...not on the top/bottom.

kennycol, that's the same on the G750, and before as well, use the sides of the caddy/disk holes for attaching the disk to the caddy.

There were holes aligned on the caddy with the bottom holes on the HDD/SSD?

That's new, and confusing - as I recall there weren't any top holes on the caddy aligned with the HDD/SSD, just the side mounting holes for the G750 and before.

I was trying to install my new ssd .. BUT .. 1 screw got stuck!

Even tho I followed all the steps you would normally do, nothing worked - So I had to dismantle 1 "arm" from the caddy and then force the screw out ..

I guess it could be worse; But I seriously expect better quality when you pay this much 😞

I will post some picktures tomorrow, cause I'm too tired right now - Haven't even been able to test it yet, because of this.

@ kennycol: Thanks much for the enlightenment. 🙂 I just remounted my 1 tb factory hard drive using the instruction you provided. This should be in the stickies. I will never figure this one out myself. Too bad I lost two mounting "ears". 🙂

I stand corrected -- It is Mini Tool's Partition Wizard Home Edition (see the link below).
