G751JT - Battery issues (Always Charging, never reaches 100%, stuck at 88%)

Hi!

As explained at title, I'm having this issue regarding battery charging. It never reaches 100% nor stops charging. I'd like to know if exists any possibility to manually set threshold battery charging up to 80% (or any other value) without flash custom bios etc.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend that you try recalibrating your battery, unfortunately this old method doesn't always work anymore. You need to completely discharge your battery to 0% then recharge to full and discharge to 0% again, do this 3-5 times and if the max charge % is able to increase after 3-5 times then it's just a calibration issue and the more you do this then eventually your battery should get back relatively close to 100% on full charge. However, if there's no change then the battery has likely degraded and is partially defective and you should contact support to see if you can get RMA replacement for the battery.

I thought it was not advisable to discharge the newer generation batteries to 0% because they may not recover to charge at all? But hey, that's me an what I just thought I've read sometime ago.

Theoretically the battery management electronics should cut power before the voltage drops to unsafe levels. So 0% doesn't really mean zero charge, just the bottom of usable charge.

That said, we used to cycle Nickel chemistry batteries because they'd develop a memory. That isn't the case with Lithium but I have no idea how the calibration electronics respond to full cycling (and it likely varies between manufacturers) so perhaps it's still a thing for that reason.

Yes, it's not a good idea to let the batteries sit at 0% charge for very long at least since they may stop charging completely if they sit too long at '0% charge' (when the 'reserve' charge is depleted?) and probably why it isn't a good idea to get a spare battery if you're not expecting to use it right away.

If you are going to discharge to 0% and charge it right away though, it should be okay since it's considered (almost?) 'normal' usage and should not kill the battery.

I already tried to discharge completely, but no luck. The problem is regarding the endless charging, that's why I'm looking for a method which could manually set threshold charger up to 80%. Anyway, I think it would be possible if ASUS had a program to manage it.
