G751JL Thunderbolt version and external GPU compatibility

I've been looking all around and can't seem to find any confirmation regarding this, the G751JL model = 2015 so I assume its thunderbolt 1. It's already 2017 and the GTX965m is not gonna cut it anymore for the upcoming releases . (pretty sure can't resell the laptop anymore and I'd rather buy an external enclosure than buy a new one or build a PC)

What I want to know is :

Any of you guys had any success finding compatible external GPU enclosure and making it work for this model ?

The XG Station 2 for ROG that comes out soon is only compatible for Thunderbolt3 ready laptops so it's a bummer, and anyone remember that 2014-15ish enclosure that was never released publicly 😞

The G751 is indeed a bit too old to be contemplating external graphics via TB. Even the G752VY with TB 3 will be limited pushing the limits of the bandwidth and may even be saturated.
As for the XG2, dont hold your breath. They said the same thing about its release for early 2016 and a year has passed. At this point they may as well just dump the project as others have been to market for almost a year and its now old technology. Ill wager they announce two 1080s in SLI soon.

Upon further reading. It seems you are correct, thunderbolt 1 is too slow and outdated already to even have hope for it .

Also regarding the razer core = thunderbolt3 (and even some tb3 laptops are having performance issues already) so yeah.
