Since I can't wait anymore for the GX500 to be released, I want to get G751, however I hate matt screens, so is there a way to get in glossy screen? Or maybe get it replaced?

Thanks

I know its the one with the much less desirable video card / drivers, but I got the G751JM from BB with the touch screen and the screen is awesome.

I too do not like matte screens.

guvadc, is the G751JM touch screen a glossy IPS screen or a glossy TN screen? So far I haven't seen any specific mention if it is an IPS or TN.

The panel is an IPS. That can be good and bad depending on what you want. They're great for viewing angles, but not that great for contrast ratios. The larger IPS panels can also have a more noticeable "IPS glow" which to me is just uniformity issues. I have a 27 inch Samsung monitor that is a SPVA panel. I went with that instead of an IPS due to better uniformity and much better black levels.

Now for the screen on the G751M , I think its one of the best screens /monitors I've looked at. It is much like that of a smart phone, meaning glass not glossy. I'm not sure if it's gorilla glass or not, but it cleans real well. Like I said before, I do not care much for matte screens and don't mind the reflections. I also am kind of tired of "experts" such as CNET telling me I should like the matte screens better.

EDIT : Actually I think the screen is a hard plastic, not glass.

Hello, I'm sorry if I will probably go a bit OT but I wanted to take the chance to ask a question as I'm a newbie about laptops... honestly I never had the chance to compare a TN screen from a IPS screen... but my question comes spontaneous: aren't you supposed to look at your laptop screen from the front/center? Why should I be worried about the viewing angles? I'm sorry if the question will sound silly, but I would like to understand ^_^

Ginseng, when you are using the laptop in normal every day use, you will be moving around, not staying immobile in front of the laptop. Yes, much of the time you will be well centered on the laptop, but if you are moving around a lot as most of us do, you will be constantly re-adjusting the angle of the laptop - -pushing it left / right and changing the tilt of the screen to optimize your viewing angle.

A good wide angle viewable screen goes a long way to reducing that annoying constant adjustment.

And, when shraing a view of the laptop, it is reassuring that when you point it at someone you don't have to futz with the angle/direction too much for them to get a good view of what you are sharing.

The matte finish TN AUO and Chi Mei screens aren't bad, I have lived with and shared views of the JW/JX/JH over a long period of time, and the only time it makes a difference that it is a TN is for up/down angle. I can get below the perfect view easily, and need to readjust the tilt for longer viewing times - like watching a movie - and if it has a lot of dark scenes you need to adjust the angle to enjoy the movie.

The fast IPS in the G751 is a big win 🙂

As to Glossy or Matte, I find the Matte is much more usable in real life. If I set 2 laptops with otherwise identical screens, 1 matte and 1 glossy next to each other - I prefer the Glossy.

But, when I take the Glossy screen laptop home and live with it at home, outside, and at work, I take back the Glossy and get the Matte. I have done that 2 times before I learned I need/prefer the Matte screen for everyday use.

There are so few places that I can get perfect lighting and non-reflective surroundings that I can't live with a Glossy screen.

When I hit that 1 perfect situation of lighting and reflections with a Glossy screen, it just heightens my awareness of how sucky it is to live with the Glossy screen - everywhere else 🙂

Please come back and let us know what you end up getting, and how you like it 🙂

Thank you hmscott, precise as always 😛 and yeah it totally makes sense... I didn't really think about that because I would get and use the G751 as if it was a desktop. Unluckily I'm not really "house stable" in the place where I am right now... I am not going to go around with my laptop but I could need to relocate more than one time and doing that with a desktop would be difficult.

Ginseng, being on the move can be fun, and with a good laptop better than not, so I know what you are saying. Be sure and get a security cable and if you can find it the Targus/? movement / cable alarm for the door - in certain situations it is a good investment, and helps others from making bad decisions.

A cushioned laptop bag like the Asus Nomad would be a good investment too.

The Best Buy G751JM touch is not IPS ????
