G751 Sound Crackling Thread (The one thread to rule them all)

EDIT - These drivers seem to allow us to disable Realtek power management ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/GeneralRelease/7624_PG435_Win10_Win8.1_Win8_Win7_WHQL.zip username : spcust password : hwwk758z
What this means is that you need to do this in regedit : Using : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\Audio\RtkNGUI64 \PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Make sure to restart after you change regedit. What all of this will do is when you turn on your laptop the first sound in windows will still produce a crackle as the sound turns on but then the sound stays on and doesn't constantly crackle every time there is a sound. There is still a shhh/chhh noise if you press your ear to the upper left part of the laptop. However, this noise isn't as noticeable as the crackling was and you have to actually press your ear against it to hear it.
Credit goes to X7007 for trying out these drivers first. Good job!

We seem to be spread out on too many threads with this issue and some people aren't even aware of other threads where this issue gets talked about so I figured a more centralized thread where we can see how many people still have this issue is warranted. If you still have this issue and the Regedit fix doesn't work for you please just make a small post here.

When making a video of the issue it is harder to hear than in reality. I don't have to put my ear next to the computer like I put the camera to hear the crackle. That's not how I computer. I just go to youtube.com and before I even click a video or play audio it crackles. Every. Time. It prematurely crackles. Putting the volume on mute doesn't make it go away. Making the volume louder or quieter doesn't either likely because it crackles before the audio even starts playing. It anticipates the audio. Another easy way to hear the crackle is to go into the Realtek application with the volume on mute and click on the speakers and they do their test but as you click on them they crackle and when the 2 second test is over they crackle again. You can also open up a video and it will crackle. Open up a video and close it right after is also fun for double the crackle. Almost like something turning on and off except I doubt you are supposed to hear it. My HP HDX18 never made this noise. Another thing to note is that this crackling issue has threads for other laptop manufacturers so we all think given the evidence that this is driver based. If I uninstall the Realtek drivers the issue goes away but then the sound sucks and I'm not really getting what I paid for!

One last thing to mention is that I am currently talking to CL-Albert about this issue so hopefully we can come to some conclusion. His test unit makes the crackle very minimally to the point where to hear it he has to put his ear to the laptop. So it is different than ours.

Yeah I thought being still a noise it can relate a bit my bad. Yes something like that, oh well it's good it does not make it too often. I think when booting it up the sound is normal, it's weird that it makes it after sometimes too. Yes the one with Blue-ray as my model was the G751JT with SSD, 16GB of ram and Blue-Ray.

Hmm I find it interesting that yours makes that noise too yet you have the blu-ray drive and I have the DVD drive. You are the only other person I have heard of besides me that has that noise. Nobody else in my other thread said anything about it.

I have 206 BIOS as well.
Yeah, oh well as long as it does no harm I'l just ignore it. Thought there is a solution for it or that it is the same as the QuietHDD thing.

it might be the Microphones playback through speakers . Pls Ensure that the microphone playback levels are zero . And check whether the sounds are coming or not . Worth a try ( idk if it was previously mentioned or tried ..i did not read the whole replies but only the primary post )

My findings when using this driver are as follows:

The noise at the beginning of the testing is still present and remains the same...However, the noise is slightly less noticeable at the end...so the noise is a softer crackling/popping and the noise at the end of the test sound is more delayed...thus it takes longer to occur when it ends than previously.


I have emailed Realtek of my findings and have submit the Dump file for further processing and I will post their response here when it is received.


Mind you, the linked driver does in fact help some...but when or after adjusting the power management as previously mentioned...it does appear to help even more...Especially, if you use a windows startup sound...this uses up the first noise then keeps the sound active...at least with my experience.

Use the Windows button + R together to open the Run menu and type in "Regedit" and hit Enter
Next navigate to the registry key as listed above: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\Audio\RtkNGUI64 \PowerMgnt]
Then look for and right click while on "Enabled" in this registry key to "Modify" the power management
While in the modifying of this key look for and in the "Value data" area type "0" and click "OK"
Restart your computer...this is important!

Now you will experience the results of all the work...just as others have!


NOTE: Open the following using "Paste and Go" in Google Chrome...because there is no password needed and it just begins the download auomatically:

Didn't work for me, G751JT, popping start with windows sound and doesn't stop until i mute or modify volume, and as always, every time i open youtube or an application that uses sound, popping start continuously pop pop pop pop pop ... god i hate this..

Could i just clarify that the tiny (but very noticeable) burst of static at the beginning and end of any sound being played is a problem with all the g751 laptops and i dont have to notify Asus to fix it (im just about to RMA for another problem).

Also the registry edit is still the best fix?

Surprised this thread is so inactive, has everyone gone and found a fix i don't know about 🙂

Seriously tho the power management popping noise drives me completely bonkers. I've currently got the latest drivers from Asus installed and unfortunately although the power management is turned off in the registry (was already off by default) it dosent seem to actually work on this driver version. Is there a known version on which this registry switch does work please?

I also had an idea of maybe getting windows to open and play on a loop in the background a completely silent mp3 or wav file. I believe this would completely fix the problem although i would rather have something that does a neater job by actually just telling power management to stay off.

Thoughts?

I'm currently looking for a solution myself. I don't think I've updated any drivers on my G751. How do I go about switching off power management to improve the crackling issue? Many thanks, Hassan
