G751 Sound Crackling Thread (The one thread to rule them all)

Mousepad
Level 10
EDIT - These drivers seem to allow us to disable Realtek power management ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/GeneralRelease/7624_PG435_Win10_Win8.1_Win8_Win7_WHQL.zip username : spcust password : hwwk758z
What this means is that you need to do this in regedit : Using : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\Audio\RtkNGUI64 \PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Make sure to restart after you change regedit. What all of this will do is when you turn on your laptop the first sound in windows will still produce a crackle as the sound turns on but then the sound stays on and doesn't constantly crackle every time there is a sound. There is still a shhh/chhh noise if you press your ear to the upper left part of the laptop. However, this noise isn't as noticeable as the crackling was and you have to actually press your ear against it to hear it.
Credit goes to X7007 for trying out these drivers first. Good job!
/EDIT

We seem to be spread out on too many threads with this issue and some people aren't even aware of other threads where this issue gets talked about so I figured a more centralized thread where we can see how many people still have this issue is warranted. If you still have this issue and the Regedit fix doesn't work for you please just make a small post here.

Video of the issue - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0q5Fa-lZr4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0KjGZNRur4

When making a video of the issue it is harder to hear than in reality. I don't have to put my ear next to the computer like I put the camera to hear the crackle. That's not how I computer. I just go to youtube.com and before I even click a video or play audio it crackles. Every. Time. It prematurely crackles. Putting the volume on mute doesn't make it go away. Making the volume louder or quieter doesn't either likely because it crackles before the audio even starts playing. It anticipates the audio. Another easy way to hear the crackle is to go into the Realtek application with the volume on mute and click on the speakers and they do their test but as you click on them they crackle and when the 2 second test is over they crackle again. You can also open up a video and it will crackle. Open up a video and close it right after is also fun for double the crackle. Almost like something turning on and off except I doubt you are supposed to hear it. My HP HDX18 never made this noise. Another thing to note is that this crackling issue has threads for other laptop manufacturers so we all think given the evidence that this is driver based. If I uninstall the Realtek drivers the issue goes away but then the sound sucks and I'm not really getting what I paid for!

One last thing to mention is that I am currently talking to CL-Albert about this issue so hopefully we can come to some conclusion. His test unit makes the crackle very minimally to the point where to hear it he has to put his ear to the laptop. So it is different than ours.

Hello Guys,
I just recently purchased G752VT which i actually returned and replaced 4 times. Yes, i literally went to the store 3 times and last times they let me open two lap top there and I had to chose the one that appeared to had less issues with speakers. I read this entire tread, and the one that was open here too: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?57178-G751J-Sound-Crackling-Issue-How-to-reproduce-it-and-...
and i can confirmt that G752 also has same issue.

I tried to reg-edit trick and it did help a bit however, when i tred to play League of Legends, sub-woofer was making really loud crackling noises with every higher explosion effect in the game. It made it really annoying. My sub-woofer was set to 50 and the only way to get rid of if was to put it down to zero. As i mentioned this is 4th g752 i tried in past 3 days and i am at the point returning it and not even getting another one.
I had every single Asus gaming lap top since g1sn back in 2008, i have been loyal to the Asus but issues with sound card has been annoying since Gt751 version and i don't know if i should just go with something else.

Try this:

And apply OPTION2

Well, after sending my unit with this and other problems back into Asus for replacement...via contacting ASUS Corporate Escalations...and to the attention of their supposed head corporate technician named Eric Sablan at their California office...as I expected...they are claiming they didn't find any issues and that the audio was playing fine with no distortions with Win 8.1 Realtek Driver v 6.0.1.7432 installed.

They went on to state the following...and yes this is cut and paste directly from the email...including the Captalization error:

"unfortunately if a unit has no problems we cannot replace or exchange it under ASUS policy, so please let us know if there is anything you wish to add by Friday, which is the current scheduled return date."

Any input and/or suggestions?

Otherwise, if they do not replace the unit, I will be escalating the issue further along with legal ramifications...and contacting any news media I can with my history of issues surrounding this and the previous systems before it that have gone on and on and on for over a year and a half as I see no other choice in this matter.

To update my previous posting...

I have confirmed that ASUS is/did send back my unit with NO repairs or work done...and they did NOT replace the unit.

They claim they did testing and found no problems with the unit...and claim that the driver mentioned previously works and no audio problems were found/heard.

Curious how they found no issues when so many of us including myself have already tested and verified that the afore said driver did NOT work and that we still experienced the problems as stated.

How is that for a spit in the face!?!

Color me disgusted at their appauling lack of service and support!

I will follow up again when I do in fact receive the unit back and confirm the issues are still present...because...well...why would they not be especially if nothing was done to it?

That sounds awful customer service. I have the same crackling problem. I have tried all the latest drivers from ftp://spcust:hwwk758z@ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/GeneralRelease/ (and older ones as well and even 8.1 drivers for my win10...) but nothing seems to solve this. I think I'll just have to live with it.

I also have a problem with headset microphones. My Win10 (8.1 -> Win10 -> Pro upgraded) does not recognize any headset microphone from the mic jack. The software even asks if I have connected Mic In or Center/Subwoofer, so it notices something is connected, but in Recording devices there is nothing but the internal mic. This has been tested using three different headsets. When connected it also silences the internal mic. If I remove the mic jack, the internal mic is again working. I also tested a friends usb-adapter and through this the headsets did work and the headset mic was shown in the Recording devices. Anyway, I am suspecting this might be because of the win upgrade and I am considering doing a clean install of Win10 to test my theory. But before that, has anyone else had problems with headset (non-usb) microphones, in Win8.1 or Win10?

The problem yet remains as I suspected. Along with the bad/stuck pixels...along with some other issues as well.

Asus support team in California is denying the problems are present stating they didn't find anything wrong during testing...which they first only tested for a couple days....then claim to have extensively tested it after I begged them too.

Also, they claim to have brought in some engineers as well.....

They then told me to send video/audio and submit them to them. Of course! They deny any problems and claim they can't hear the problems.

The names of the support agents are Darren O. and the supposed highest technician and lead Eric Sablan.

Avoid them at all costs as they are of no help...and can obviously just deny there being any problems.

Welcome to corporate America!

Maybe I just can't hear it, but I don't hear any crackling or anything at all for that matter, when my audio cable is plugged in. The built-in speakers work, and that's being generous - the audio is terrible and pretty much unlistenable. Par for the course with a laptop, though.

You know, I'd like to see a manufacturer skip the speakers entirely - more room for battery/cooling without them, and they're universally terrible. I haven't heard a single laptop with a listenable speaker, ever.

I have just received a nice new G752VY but guess what it has the same annoying audio popping that we have with the G751. Nice to see Asus bothered to try and fix the problem for the new models..... 😞

Just spoke to Asus who are not aware of any issues with audio popping or crackling on either G751 or G752... I think it's time to look at a different brand as Asus are a joke tbh.....

Noticed the same phenomenon with two G751JT's 😞 Could not get it to disappear by using drivers and the "regedit fix".

Anyone had luck with some other methods? You think this affects all G751 models, just that people are not as "picky" as us?
