G751 Sound Crackling Thread (The one thread to rule them all)

Mousepad
Level 10
EDIT - These drivers seem to allow us to disable Realtek power management ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/GeneralRelease/7624_PG435_Win10_Win8.1_Win8_Win7_WHQL.zip username : spcust password : hwwk758z
What this means is that you need to do this in regedit : Using : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\Audio\RtkNGUI64 \PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Make sure to restart after you change regedit. What all of this will do is when you turn on your laptop the first sound in windows will still produce a crackle as the sound turns on but then the sound stays on and doesn't constantly crackle every time there is a sound. There is still a shhh/chhh noise if you press your ear to the upper left part of the laptop. However, this noise isn't as noticeable as the crackling was and you have to actually press your ear against it to hear it.
Credit goes to X7007 for trying out these drivers first. Good job!
/EDIT

We seem to be spread out on too many threads with this issue and some people aren't even aware of other threads where this issue gets talked about so I figured a more centralized thread where we can see how many people still have this issue is warranted. If you still have this issue and the Regedit fix doesn't work for you please just make a small post here.

Video of the issue - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0q5Fa-lZr4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0KjGZNRur4

When making a video of the issue it is harder to hear than in reality. I don't have to put my ear next to the computer like I put the camera to hear the crackle. That's not how I computer. I just go to youtube.com and before I even click a video or play audio it crackles. Every. Time. It prematurely crackles. Putting the volume on mute doesn't make it go away. Making the volume louder or quieter doesn't either likely because it crackles before the audio even starts playing. It anticipates the audio. Another easy way to hear the crackle is to go into the Realtek application with the volume on mute and click on the speakers and they do their test but as you click on them they crackle and when the 2 second test is over they crackle again. You can also open up a video and it will crackle. Open up a video and close it right after is also fun for double the crackle. Almost like something turning on and off except I doubt you are supposed to hear it. My HP HDX18 never made this noise. Another thing to note is that this crackling issue has threads for other laptop manufacturers so we all think given the evidence that this is driver based. If I uninstall the Realtek drivers the issue goes away but then the sound sucks and I'm not really getting what I paid for!

One last thing to mention is that I am currently talking to CL-Albert about this issue so hopefully we can come to some conclusion. His test unit makes the crackle very minimally to the point where to hear it he has to put his ear to the laptop. So it is different than ours.

I just had another 2 g751s this week for that same issue and both times it was actually hardware problems. On one the wire was pinched and shorting out and the other had plastic debris sitting on the speaker cone itself and just needed dusting. I have yet to see a single g751 with sound issues that werent hardware related after driver updates. I urge people to remove the few screws for just the back piece and check the speakers and wires themselves if you cant solve your problem with driver updates.
3d printed parts and accessories for the G751. You know you want something better than OEM ->https://www.shapeways.com/shops/aeolisio[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I took you up on this and opened up the speaker part. It is really simple to do so as all you have to do is remove about 6 screws or so underneath the speaker casing and it will pop out. What I found was that a rubber sticky part was kind of loose and was a bit sticky on top of a wire. I moved the rubber part off of the wire and stuck the wire inside and adhered the rubber sticky black piece where I saw online others had it. I put everything back together and surprise I still have crackling sound. I have attached photos for you to see if maybe I missed something?

The close up photo shows the rubber sticky part after I moved the black wire behind it where it is supposed to go and put the rubber sticky part where I saw others had it. The less zoomed in photo is just of the whole speaker system right before I was about to put it back together.

I still think this has to be a driver issue. It happens only in specific instances where we can always reproduce it. If it was a wire/hardware issue why wouldn't it happen randomly?

I don't undertsand you guys, if it doesn't happen when using windows drivers how can it be an hardware problem?

For me it was worth a shot to open up the speaker component given it is easy to do. I am also of the opinion that it is a driver issue. ASUS continues to ignore our problem however. I hope ghunter323 will post back with his results from the service center as that may help us going forward given ASUS has done nothing for well beyond 6 months now.

I fgured out, what my sound problem was. When turnin the volume up, certain frequencies produced a noise as if something was vibrating at these frequencies (a shattering noise). I tried different drivers and all and narrowed it down to a hardware issue.
Yesterday I left a magazine on top of the touchpad and was surprised when the noise suddenly had gone. I figured that it's the left and right button of the touchpad that start to vibrate at a certain volume and frequency. Got no real fix for it yet. But good to know its not the speakers themselves.

Your issue is 99% OT. Please refer to the OP for the details... OP and our issue IS PRESENT EVEN if all the speakers are completely MUTED!

The Subwoofer between 250-300 Hz produces some harmonics that can cause vibrations for the keys on the keyboard & the touchpad buttons. What i would do is limit the subwoofer up until 250 Hz.

Maybe i have find a fix for the Crackling Problem.

1. Go in Systemsettings
2. Go in Sound
3. Right click on Speaker (Realtek High Definition Audio)
4. Click on Show deactivated Devices
5. Now go in the Recording Tab
6. in recording Tab u need to see "Stereomix"
7. Right Click on Stereomix and Activate it
8. Right Cklick on "Stereomix" and select "Properties"
9. In Properties you need to go to Tab "intercept" -----(sorry my english is not perfect, i'm german)
10. Now select "Use this device for playback source"
11. Go in the "Level" Tab and set it to 0

Now the Sound should work without Chrackling issue
but my microphone doesn't work anymore.

What i have do before is:
(Maybe you don't have to do this)

*Additionally, I have deinstalled the current Realtek driver in Software and then i have installed the Realtek 6.0.1.7606 Driver.
*Next i have stopped the MaxAudio Processes in Taskmanager and delete the Waves Folder in C: drive (Please Search for the folder "Waves")

I don't need the MaxxAudio Software and i think the software makes a little bit trouble too.
