G751 help, black screen after powering on

When I turned on my laptop It didn't do anything, there was a black screen and the keyboard was red as usual. I left it like this for like an hour and nothing happened. I had to turn it off on the power button

Sunny I am fairly sure its a Driver or Bios Issue, I would wait for a driver update to fix it. I do hope ASUS is taking notice of this issue, for me its not a deal breaker, but an annoyance.

I updated to bios 205. Still the same. Black screen on startup sometimes. Is there any way to downgrade to bios 204?I want to try it too. I tried a lot of drivers.Chipset,audio,vga.etc.Nothing worked. It's causing this issue after it came back from RMA. And finally,the vga got coil whine cause i can hear a really annoying buzzing noise when the gpu is on load. It's sad but this machine is a crap for this price. It has got 5 times more problems than my 2 years old acer notebook. I would really appreciate a WORKING bios update and drivers as you mentioned. This machine drives me crazy.

I have the exact same problem on my G751-JY. It has become more frequent lately. I'm running latest NVIDIA beta drivers and bios 205 (latest for JY). Now I might need 4-5 sleep/wake cycles to bring up the image on screen, before it used to be just 1-2.

Also, sometimes when booting, the computer gets stuck on the bios POST screen logo and requires a hard reset.

And yes, there's the annoying coil whine on this gpu as well on some games.

I'm quite disappointed, compared to my old G75 this has vastly more problems. Going to take it to service soon.

Has anyone found any kind of resolution for the annoying blank screen problem on their G751?

Dunno what's behind it. When i got black screen it doesnt even post the bios logo. It needs power off and on. I have win 8.1 installed in uefi mode. Cant even try recovery cause it came with FreeDos. And it is totally random. It boots properly for 2 days and sometimes it doesnt boot for twice in a row. And yapp,the coil whine in some games really freaks me out. Especially the older games with higher fps.
i have the 751JY modell too with 256 GB SSD,4710hq and 980m.

The problem in my 751JY is that when the screen does not turn on, the computer DOES work: even if the bios logo is not visible, it starts booting windows, and also resuming from sleep with a blank screen works (i can log in, it just does not show anything on the screen).

So, it due to the uefi/post logo problems, it cannot be a windows driver/update issue. It is either bios, vbios or hardware issue. I'm going to return it for service. i'm not going to keep cycling my computer 4-5 times just to get the image back on the screen.

Asus, get your quality control together!

I don't know if this would help you in any way but I've had issues with 2 previous model ASUS laptops where the VGA driver messes with the backlight of the screen - but I understand you think it can't be a driver issue. The only other laptop I've seen this behaviour on was a MSI that also had the GPU soldered on. It would sometimes show an image and sometimes not but would always output to an external screen. it turned out that the core chip was somehow slightly misaligned - aka a quality control issue. But this seems unlikely to me because ASUS have had an excellent track record for build quality for me.

Are you sure the screen is blank and that the backlight is simply not on?

Yeah, just to clarify: the backlight is on, but no image is present. pressing FN+F7 can be used to turn it off and on, but no image appears until power has been cycled multiple times.

Usually this problem appears when the computer has been for sleep overnight or longer times, so perhaps a capacitor issue etc.

Generally I've been happy with ASUS before but it seems that with this unit I got a bad apple (first broken HDD and then this screen problem).

It could also be a Windows sleep issue, along with Black Screen boot issues, there are lots of reports:

I can confirm that this is *NOT* a driver issue, nor an issue with Windows updates or Windows sleep. This is either:

1. BIOS issue
2. Hardware issue

I am certain it has nothing to do with drivers or Windows because it happens before Windows is even accessed. As an example (I'm experiencing the exact same problem on a GL551JM) I can turn the computer on and smash the f2 key to get into BIOS. But, there's nothing on the screen! The backlight is on, but nothing is displayed. I know I'm in BIOS, because I can right arrow four times then hit enter twice and the computer will reboot, which is the sequence to get to the "Save and Quit" prompt in BIOS.

So the real question then: is this hardware related, or BIOS related?

Aeiouy, if you have debugged it to a BIOS issue then you, and others that have the issue, should report it to Asus with the details/steps/debugging they used to demonstrate it - maybe even a video attached to the Technical Inquiry as a zip file. And, ask Asus for an updated BIOS.

There are also lots of Windows based black screen issues, some caused by Microsoft updates, so make sure you have debugged to which problem it is before reporting it to Asus.
