G750JX very high cpu temps

I just got my laptop today, swapped in my SSD, installed win 8 pro etc. After checking temps, something seems wrong with the CPU cooling. Under stress, the cores are all >90 degrees celsius, with core 2 nearing 100 (seen it at 98 max so far). I'm using CPUID HWMonitor, latest version, to check these temps.

Idle CPU temp is ~40-45 celsius (this is in a dry ~25 degree room). What I find odd is that the second I click "start" in the IntelBurnTest the temps soar to 80-90. I mean this literally, it takes 1-2 secs to jump to 90ish and the fan kicks in. This is coupled with the cpu throttling itself (understandably) down from ~3.2ghz at start of test to ~2.1ghz after 1 minute.

The GPU cooling is fine, it never went above 71 degrees even during tomb raider w/ tressfx and fully maxed out.

Should I be sending this to Asus, or back to the reseller? Coming from a Clevo laptop, I am no stranger to repasting my laptop cpu/gpu myself but I suspect this may void the warranty, not to mention it seems a herculean task compared to clevos.

Well I have similar temperatures while stress testing. I took CPU voltage down by 59mV which lowered temps by 3-5 degrees. Temps are fine while gaming or doing some other similar task, so I'm ok with it for now.

If your CPU is throttling I would take it back to the vendor if your in your return window otherwise RMA. Your correct repasting yourself would void your warranty.

Normal Burn In on mine 100% I used :Burn In Test: 80ish it takes a few minutes to reach these temps and doesn't exceed this on a 15 minute run.

how is your cooling system, when you temp high, it is running fast? i think idle is 40-50, it is ok, but if worry, you can send to service center to check.

I have a g750jx-tb71. I idle 40-42 on the CPU. The GPU idles 38-39.

I havent done a burn test yet, but during intense video encoding my motherboard and CPU temp quickly rises to the 70s, and peaks 79-80. I don't think its broken 80 yet. I believe the GPU stays significantly cooler, peaking at about 70 although I would need to verify that.

I'm tracking temps using Speccy. Speedfan shows about the same temps (lower, if anything).

The only upgrade I had done by the re-seller Pro-Star was IC diamond paste. I'm going to pick up an external notebook cooler soon to see if I can drop the temps just a bit more.

Here are my "idle" temps. A browser and video editing program are open, but not encoding or doing anything intense. Uh, ignore the fan speed ha. Its accurate when it loads up but eventually gets thrown off.

I am with a JW, but ran IntelBurnTest anyway. Temps soar to 90s fast, but once the fans kick in on high, everything is below 85 C.

yes it sounds like you are having a problem of some sort. I know on stress test mine slowly builds up to temp and fan speeds increase with rising temps until it comes to the highest temp, then through the rest of the test in will stay within a couple of C + - , Your Idle temps are high normal. You state that your fans kick it and lower the temps I don't think this is normal. Then again I haven't used IntelBurnTest, so maybe its the way that program works? still I think your fans should be increasing speed as your CPU heats up. 85C is kind of high normal for 100% Stress test.

Not worried about it. Warranty and IPR at my local Asus dealer = happy worry free life. Let Asus worry about it.
After running N61Jq for two years with temps at 80 idle, this is a big improvement 🙂

Just a followup - my temps are now sorted out, under intel stresstest I max out at 80 degrees. Laptop is lovely, no issues to speak of. The whisper-like quietness even under load is oh so good.

On a different note, Speedfan temps are wrong. The numbers are way too low. About 15 degrees less than HWMonitor. I don't believe my CPU is idling @25 degrees like it tells me, that means it's colder than the room I'm in.
