G750JX Bad EDID - solved

Hello,

I had this issue for while now and need help, somehow my display EDID got overwritten or deleted, at first my Laptop display wouldn't turn on but I managed to get it to start by enabling secure boot in BIOS using an external display.

From what I understood from here ( https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/drivers/display/overriding-monitor-edids ) there is a way to fix this with the help of an INF file provided by the manufacturer, can anyone help me solve this issue ?

Thank You !

I didn't know this, but since it is already corrupted what harm can it do if I overwrite it.

I can't believe I actually fixed it !

Here are the details in case anyone needs this at any point.

I used the python script from here ( https://github.com/bulletmark/edid-rw ) in order to write the EDID, you do need a Linux distro to do this.

And here is the EDID for my LCD Model B173HW02 :

Honestly, didn't study this too carefully and don't know if it will matter, but as you mentioned since the system isn't working right now, shouldn't be a big deal either way and the EDID may really just be model-specific rather than LCD-panel specific for our notebooks, so sorry for the confusion.

Congrats! Where did you get the EDID? That might be relevant to someone else with a different panel. They probably shouldn't try to use the same EDID.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

I got it from a G750JZ model actually , not even the same as mine, using the script I provided previously, I manually corrected the EDID where I noticed it had broken values, a bit barbaric but it worked flawlessly, as soon as I wrote the new EDID the screen turned on.

The EDID can also be retrieved using this http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm
