g750jw running iwn8.1 need realtek update?

I bought the g750jw with windows 8.0 installed. I have updated it to 8.1. I don't know if this is related, but I have noticed that the sound coming from the speakers was much better when the laptop was new. So, I don't know if I have done something that is giving me degraded sound or it was the 8.1 update that is possibly incompatible with the realtek driver or some other audio issue. The sound from the headphones is great. It's just sound from the speakers that is flat and unimpressive now. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Susan

Hi Susan, yes there is a Windows 8.1 driver for Realtek, from Asus, but I needed to pull it from a newer release H87 motherboard, and it looks like it is still the newest available version. Here is a link to my original post, just before Windows 8.1 released.

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38118-Sonic-Radar-Realtek-Audio-Driver-V6.0.1.7040-for-Wind...

And, if you have a stong constitution, you can read through the original Windows 8.1 update thread, with lots of complaining in between useful information. There are links to drivers and updates for Windows 8.1 that are still valid. Newer drivers are coming from Asus for the G750's, but aren't here yet.

Here is a link to post #36 in that thread where we started talking about Windows 8.1 drivers, substitutes, and work arounds... several pages later lists of drivers came together. But, you might want to read all the posts to get all the info.

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38627-When-will-the-Windows-8.1-Drivers-become-available&p=...

And, hang around the Asus G750JW, JX, and JH support urls to see what new drivers come out weekly. I also follow the newer motherboard releases for motherboards that use components also in our laptops - like intel chipset, usb, sata, bluetooth, wifi, ethernet, etc parts we have in common. Asus tends to release new drivers for new motherboards sooner than back filling older hardware releases with updated drivers.
