G750JW-BBI7N05 laptop lag?

My laptop is roughly a month and a half old. Everything runs great (that I'm aware of), but I have one problem with it, playing games. My laptop plays games great right after I restart the system. However if I put the system to sleep for a couple hours or start doing homework and come back to play my game again later it is really laggy, even on low settings it lags. I will than close all my main programs and it still lags. But after I restart my computer again it plays the game perfectly. I was wondering what causes the lag I'm experiencing. It doesn't matter what sort of game it is single or muitlplayer it lags, big time even in the menus the cursor lags. Notice I don't experience lag doing anything else on this laptop, or if I do it's usually pretty fast.

It sounds like the game is being paged out to disk, and since the system doesn't know which section of the program/data comes next it doesn't know how much to page-in from the disk when you go back to using it, so the OS does it in OS sized little bitty chunks instead of restoring the full image back to active memory.

It is less noticeable if you have an SSD, and if you set the power plan to never sleep/spin-down the storage device.

If you have at least 8GB of memory, and aren't running close to the edge of memory, or need to debug OS crashes, you can set the VM paging size to 0 and reboot to see if that fixes the swapping out of memory problem - it should 🙂

The instructions are correct, but set the size to 0, Apply, Ok, ..., Ok, Reboot

I have this same problem. My laptop is barely a month old and now it started lagging. @hmscott I tried to change the VM size as per your instructions but I cant change it because there it says that minimum value is 16Mb. Oh and i have intsalled my games in D drive. Please help i am really frustrated.

kamz011, it's like disk APM induced lag, see the solution here:

Windows complains when you disable the pagefile, but you should be able to set "no paging file" and Apply the change. Instead of setting it to 0.



Setting to 0 was the way to do it, now you can set "no paging file" for each volume.
