G750JS performing poorly.

Heya
I recently bought the ASUS ROG G750JS T4093H with the 870m GPU. While some games run fine (like Dota2), others have low fps, stutters and lags. (Which my old computer had no problem running, which is 5+ years old with nothing special in it).

So I tested 3dmark 11 and scored 1200 points.. which is way too low. I looked at a review of the G750JS-T4064H and they got 7200points in 3dmark11.

I use windows 8.1 (as it came), I have updated the nvidia drivers to 340.52 and haven't touched anything else, no overclocking no nothing. Edit: I bought a samsung 840 EVO too, and moved windows to it, (by using an usb of the factory rrecovery I got by using backtracker and installing it to the ssd.)

So what could be the problem? Windows 8? Or is there a way to optimize my g750js to "best performance" or such?

I'm sorry I didn't follow through this topic.

You might wanna try to enable the coreparking again, if you are having still this issue. I noticed that as I disabled coreparking, my fan started to get more active, which is common sense, as we force all the cores into work and so more heat is being created. I do not have problems with the heat whatsoever, and the temp usually stays around 40-45 max on desktop stuff. I'm thinking myself to modify the fan set up, so that it wouldn't start so easily, as the heat is not an problem for me.

And as you were asking, I did go into 110 in downvoltage, as hmscott suggested. Thank you also hmscott for that.

Vanility, I would try to get another one of those you got, 'cuz I don't have any heat issues in any activity.

Q: Would you know how to modify that fan setting hmscott? In other words, how to make it triggered less by my activity?

Hey guys
ASUS ROG G750JS T4093H

This model have 750 gb HDD 5400 rpm and the 8gb of SSD ? But up on opening the bottom ram/hdd cover only what I can find is 1hdd drive. Same as I go to drives management there nothing mentioned about any extra solid disks with 8gb memory. Please explain, where the hell that 8gbSSD which is writen in that model specs?

arhangel, checking out the specs it mentions a hybrid drive for that model. A hybrid drive contains both the 750GB spinning storage and an 8GB SSD in front of it to cache frequently used bits. The 8GB SSD isn't individually visible / addressable, it is a front end cache to the HDD, and physically contained within the HDD case.

Here is a general description of Hybrid drives.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_drive

You can look up your drive model info and google the specifics.

Thx for anwer, st750lm000-1ej16g my HDD model, and can't ge any info that it would be a SSHD type. Btw maybe there is any program so I can see or set my self all apps or files that shuld be used by flash disk and rest by hdd?

arhangel, sometimes Seagate ships OEM drives and doesn't update their online information quickly. I couldn't find this specific model, or even the root name, the closest I got was on the New Zealand / Australia Seagate site:

Momentus® XT 6Gb/s 750GB Hard Drive
ST750LX003
http://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/internal-hard-drives/solid-state-hybrid/momentus-xt-hybrid/#spe...

As far as setting the apps in the cache, or seeing the flash on the Hybrid drive, not this kind and not likely to happen - it is controlled by the HDD logic which stores the data in chunks and to allow user access wouldn't make sense - you don't get access to the 64MB RAM cache either 🙂

Speed improves as your file use habits stabilize. In the beginning when doing installs and trying lots of things out, you are pretty much only going to see HDD speeds.

After a while when you enter into a stable use pattern, what you use will load much faster.

You can help things out by turning of paging and hibernate, so those huge files aren't being accessed - their algorithm might ignore those files, but they might still cache parts of them. Also move large files that get opened a lot to the 2nd disk, especially if their performance isn't important. Like databases, texture files, etc.

Keep only what you want to use most and have run the fastest on the Hybrid drive, and be consistent that is best way to tune it's performance.

Vanility, there have been problems with the new Optimus JM/JS with newer Nvidia drivers, not performance issues, but crashing issues - if you aren't crashing don't worry about it, but if you do start getting BSOD's, switch to the Asus posted 332.60 driver - do a Custom/Clean install.

Watch the forums for updates on new Nvidia drivers, Nvidia / Microsoft have been having problems with memory leaks since the new framework on Windows 8.1.

Low performance is likely due to the Intel GPU being used, right click on the App and switch to High Performance Nvidia - or go into Nvidia Control panel and set Global 3D settings to use High Performance, and go through setting individual program settings too.

Use the tweaks in this thread and search through this forum for other posts as well about specific games, Nvidia drivers, and tweaking tools.

Thanks Scott, I can see from your writing that you know what you are talking about, unlike me. I'm just rather trying out stuff. 😄

It worked though so I wanted to share, so that people wouldn't feel like they wasted their money. Like you said, it just takes a bit more to tweak this baby to reveal to full potential she's hiding.

.. and thanks from the undervolt tip, will be testing that soon !

Thanks yet again for your time to answer hmscott.

I spoke with the reseller, I can send it back and get a new JX for the same price, hows the performance compared to the JS? From what I've read the 770m should be a little weaker than the 870m right? They still got a couple of JH left but then I have to cough up more money. Do you know what kind of ssd there is in the JX/JH ? The resellers website just says "256gb SSD, SATA III 6Gb/s".

Or I can return it and hope for a cooler JS.

I have had it on blanced power plan for a couple of hours now and average idle temp is 50ish, goes to 70-75 while doing stuff, stresstesting still makes the temp jump around like crazy. These temps aren't normal right? Read in a review that they had an idle temp of 30ish degrees.

Is there something I could've done to **** this up or is this just a problem with this computer?

Generally the 870m is thought of as about 25-30% more powerful than the 770m(both GPU stock).

770m = underclocked GTX 660

870m = underclocked GTX 660 Ti (I have my 870m overclocked higher than 660 Ti stock clocks, both mem and core)
